I have mixed feelings about this hotel. 
We stayed here for a ski-holiday and don't place high expectations on a hotel since we only use it to eat and sleep. the rest of the day, we're outside.
However, the time spent in the hotel still matters and this was not our best experience. 

The rooms are 'correct'. Clean, everything works, nothing to add. 
Ski-lockers are 'correct' as well. There's one, and that's about it. small, so crowded during rush hour, and with heated boot-holders that were not really heating up. We were lucky with the weather, but in snowy conditions, I'm not sure if this would be sufficient to get dry boots overnight. 
Breakfast was probably the strongest point. A wide array of choices, quickly refilled when empty. 
Dinner had a fixed structure everyday. A salad bar and soup in a self-service part and a main dish and dessert, served at the table. During breakfast, you choose between meat, fish or vegetarian. We quickly realized that it's a good idea to fill up on the salad and soup because the main course is not that big. Quality is quite good, with some odd choices that would not fit well with picky eaters. Salad bar is the same everyday but with about 10 different vegetables (plus sauces and croutons) there's ample choice. 
positive during dinner is that a bottle of wine can be kept  for tomorrow. 

We can discuss the number of stars this hotel has, but for the money we paid, I could give this experience 4*

My mixed feelings that I mentioned above are mainly linked to the staff. We experienced them as 'in your face', ranging from your typical 'funny man' with jokes in Austrian that we didn't get and felt as if we offended him, the 'mater familias' who helped you choose coffee and therefore just takes the cup out of your hand, and the restaurant manager who's volume knob is permanently set to 9. In terms of how a guest wants to be treated at a 4-star hotel, it's close to unmannered.

Just read a few negative reviews here on Tripadvisor, you'll see we're not alone. 

The more discrete approach of one of the waiters sat a whole lot better with us. Given the big difference with his colleagues, it almost felt apologetic. 

The bar and restaurant were recently refurbished and look really nice, but this again clashes with the 'in your face' staff. 

we did not use the wellness facilities so we cannot comment on this. 
The playground outside you see in the foto's is not part of the hotel. It's right next door and a great place for kids, but open to the entire village. 

For a skiing trip with intermediate skiers, Flachau is a great place. 
We might return to this hotel but with a different mindset towards our expectations.
And maybe rent a ski-locker in the Achterjet-building to avoid the small lockers in the hotel.

Flachau is a great ski-resort, but there might be better hotels...

I'll give you a minute. We were really pleased around, there was really nothing to complain about except: the closed skis, they have an electric ski heater, but unfortunately it didn't work. Not only with us but with other guests, as we happened to know. Very nice staff, delicious food, parking at home, large room. We'll be back!

The positive first: the kitchen was excellent and the food was lovingly prepared by the kitchen staff; the buffet from the pre-meals was fine! However, if you want to know how a youth hostel was used back in the 1980s, you're right here. The ways of dealing with guests are being redefined in this accommodation. For example, when paying the bill: Now you have time, but now I don't have time!. We just had a lot to do.

You want to feel like school?

The hostel is located near the highway and is very conveniently located. The hotel is located in a very convenient and spacious location. Our hotel is located directly on an anchor elevator and is only 200 metres away from the gondola. This makes for a perfect and smooth start to the day of skiing. The hotel is not too large, but seems to have gotten a bit older. This is not in the way of a comfort factor, however. It has a very well-equipped and spacious room. Our small lounge with a double bed, seating area, TV and wardrobe and our lounge with dressing room, from which the bathroom and a separate bathroom can be reached. The lounge has a perfectly modern day with a view around the house. The lounge has a perfectly clean bathroom. Every morning we have a full breakfast and breakfast in the morning. The lounge is open and there is a tasty dining room. The lounge and the dining room are available for breakfast and dinner. The lounge is perfectly equipped with a tasty dining room. The lounge and the dining room are also available for breakfast and lunch.

Perfect location and top-notch hotel!

This could have been good! This could have been a solid rating of four out of five... But management got in the way. 

Our family was having great days - fantastic staff, good pool, good food, ok rooms... but already on day one we experienced a manager totally out of touch with how you should communicate with guests. Getting all worked up over we allowed ourselfes to take some cake from the cake and icecream buffet that was part of the booking, with a very rude and high pitched tone of voice she scolded us, and the children suddenly didn’t want any cake or icecream after all. We chose to ignore it and tried to enjoy our holidays. But fact was that she just continued. By the pool, at the frontdesk, at breakfast... yelling at people and constantly correcting the guests, telling them that they were doing things wrong and that they should act according to her will. A safety box not working - “You are using it WRONG!” - No it turned out to be the keycard that was faulty. A parasol that was standing wrong at the pool - “You are BREAKING the parasol!!” - No I had just arrived at the pool and had nothing to do with the parasol - it was some one elses sunbed. Having a cup of coffee at breakfast - “You are SPILLING!” - ehm No... just No. 

At this point The guests were talking openly about her rude manners. 

The final price was when we had to pay 70 euro for a broken plastic toilet seat. And when I tried to argue quietly and sensible about this with her, I suddenly found my self in the TV series “Fawlty Towers” facing a real life “Basil” when she jumped up from the frontdesk screaming at me and shouting that I was stupid and insolent! 

Needless to say: We are NOT comming back and we can in no way recommend this hotel.

The hotel is only 20 meters away from the cable car station. Rooms are spacious enough and comfortable. The cleanliness is the best we experienced in Austrian hotels. For sure you can't complain from the staff, they are second to none.

A great family run hotel

it was my first visit in Flachau. For sure i will be their guest as soon as possible. the room is very large, comfortable, clean, a perfect view, locker for ski equipment, sauna with multiple choices and spa. the dinner is very good, the chef do all to make his guests happy, same the personnel. ski passes also we can get from reception. the slopes are wonderful.

a nice surprise

Last week with my wife we spend a week at Austria and Germany and we enjoyed this fantastic hotel from first minute to last minute room was amazing very clean with a balcony that you can enjoy mountains you can enjoy even swimming in a heated pool and food was very good breakfast excellent with hot items and dinner amazing always delicious with variety of different dishes with tasty dessert as well and the incredible waiter Vasco and his team always their to serve you with smile FANTASTIC HOTEL.

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE

Hotel Unterberghof is a very good hotel for those who like us wanted to visit many beautiful attractions in Salzburg-Austria. We stayed for one week and we really enjoyed our stay. Our room on the third floor was lovely and we liked the decorations of the landings of this hotel as there are many tapestries on the walls. The mountain views from the windows were amazing. Breakfast was good and dinner very delicious especially the soups and the main course. Thanks to the staff for making our holiday in Austria a fantastic one!!

Austrian Delights

It's a well-run hotel. The owner and all the staff are very nice, hospitable and friendly. The rooms are decent, but the furniture is a little old. But quite clean. We had a room with a double bed and a couch for the children. This is also enough. But for adults, I think, only for 2-3 nights. There's a ski shed with heated sponges for the ski equipment, which was very pleasant. The location is very good. The eighth jet (Gondel) is very easy to reach. There's a drop-off almost directly into the ski shed (Red Pistine). But the food is good. Unfortunately, you can save breakfast with all the variations of fresh bread and other dishes at a different price. Unfortunately, there's a lot of time to eat in the hotel, but it's not always good for parents, but it's not always good for a few days, but it's not always good for a couple of hours, but it's not always good for the kids.
