My Austrian friend was certain we'd find a ZIMMER FREI” Penisonen in Anif in the outskirts of Salzburg if we drove around a bit. Sure enough we did and it was all we hoped for. Since it was time for their evening walk the owner found a couple keys and said 'see you in the morning for breakfast and we'll fill out the papers'! We ate dinner locally which was quite delicious and not the typical Austrian food. In the morning families and all guests were comfortably seated at individual tables out on a lovely patio and served an incredible breakfast. The coffee was the best of the whole trip! Homemade banana bread, jams, yogurt, granola, with fresh fruit, cheeses, bacon, meats available at a buffet each morning. The rooms one floor up had a porch overlooking their lovely backyard and open fields. They were spacious and comfortable and everything was spotless. The bus stop was right in town a 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive away and the #25 bus to Salzburg is about a 15-20 minute ride and ran frequently in both directions for a couple of euros. We were so happy to find this charming pension and highly recommend it when you visit Salzburg.
