All I’m going to say is don’t do it. This place is a disappointment, to the Daintree and Australia Take my review how you want. But you have been warned. I should have taken photos. The pool is disgusting. The reception is filthy and the fact that the room was about 50° did not help.

Well it’s not good

The advantages of this unexpected gem of a hotel became more apparent after checking in - (or attempting to!) - at a major Port Douglas resort. By comparison our check-in at Daintree Wild was swift, efficient and friendly. Our room much more spacious, clean, comfortable and characterful, with beautiful and interesting decor. Sleep quality and bed comfort was far superior and our bathroom at Daintree Wild was super huge with convenient hooks, shelves and surfaces and spotlessly clean. Our breakfast was presented beautifully and incredibly tasty and the friendly attention given to us by Donna our hostess was very warming. All this convenience, comfort and attention to every detail far outweighed any initial misgivings at the admittedly  dark and gloomy reception area. It should also be noted the ensuite rooms are only accessible via 2 flights of stairs and that while an excellent continental breakfast is included in the tariff, a plan for dinner should be worked out beforehand. A pleasant 20 minute drive takes you to Daintree hotel which provides meals Wednesday to Sunday but is closed on Monday and Tuesdays. Otherwise we can heartily recommend dinner at the Mossman Bowls Club around a 30 minute drive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Daintree Wild and certainly would stay again if in the area. It provides a most convenient location to explore the Cape Tribulation and Mossman area with easy access to nearby cruises on the Daintree River.

Characterful Daintree Accommodation.

We were holidaying at Cairns and took the opportunity to visit Daintree and wanted to do some bush walking and sightseeing over 2 days. We have a 5yo daughter and needed to be mindful of her need to be
Entertained. Searching online found what appeared tone a nice b&b in the forest with a variety animals for our daughter to interact with. We arrived on a rainy day. First impressions, omg. This is a deserted run down long forgotten creepy building! Never the less we ventured in. Has to drag our suitcases through puddles deep enough to soak your socks. Said hello to reception nice lady (highlight) the place looked dim gloomy, dunk like a cave. Got our room after dragging our bags up slippery wet wooden stairs into a gloomy dunk room. It wasn't good and felt and smelt as if it was just opened after long period of isolation. We felt very very disappointed and could not stay. After some discussion with the nice lady we escaped. Looking in the rear view mirror questionably, while trying to collect our thoughts how we had paid $430 dollars for that experience. The word scam comes mind as well as sucker and dupped. 

There is some confusion as the place used to be called Daintree wild zoo. 

I can not think of any reason to stay there, if it was the cheapest place in the Daintree area it could be a budget option.

Misleading

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our stay at this hotel as two of our family contracted Covid immediately prior to our arrival.  I emailed the  hotel immediately and explained the situation. Living in France it is impossible to take up the offer of a credit (See the reply below) I was very dissatisfied by the response - other hotels I had to cancel refunded my money in full. In the circumstances I have had no option but to accept that I have lost my money A$ 657.63 in full as it will not be possible to return to Australia in the next twelve months. This was the reply from the hotel :-

As with the lateness of the request that you have made, our policy is to issue you with a credit to value of your booking to be used in the next 12 months.

I wrote again requesting an exception to their policy but they were not forthcoming. What a shame. I will now not use this hotel even if I was in a position to return within the 12 month period. 

Sadly, I cannot comment on the hotel facilities as obviously we did not stay due to our Covid situation.

Covid cancellation inflexibility

Donna and Gil are the perfect hosts. Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They built Wild B&B twenty or so years ago incorporating a private zoo. Unfortunately Covid and the lack of tourists for two years has forced closure of the zoo apart from a couple of saltie  crocodiles and a few birds. Our room in the aviary wing overlooked the zoo and apart from frog noises at night was quiet. The room was spacious and had a great shower. Breakfast was served each morning in the former cafe area. 
We had five nights there and I would happily stay again.

Great room, quiet location

These folk are really suffering from the pandemic and lack of guests.  We are pleased we chose to stay there and give them some support.  Our room in the Aviary wing was large, clean and well appointed.  The aircon was on when we checked in.  Our hosts were welcoming and generous.  Very sad they have had to let the animals go due to no revenue coming in.  If you are heading that way then I recommend you supporting them.  The room had the largest shower area I have ever seen and loads of hot water.  The peace and quiet made it the perfect base for us to do a day trip to Cape Tribulation and another to Mossman and Port Douglas.  It was wonderful to get back to the serenity and relaxing atmosphere.  The current owners developed the site which was a mammoth task for them and to see them short on guests is a great shame.  Lovely folk.

Lovely Room and so peaceful

I wish I was able to say it was great, but it was pretty sad. The photos on booking.com are not currently a true reflection of how it currently is. The room was ok, but we had a couple of issues with it. 
The accommodation has lots of potential, with a massive overhaul and clean out. 
The owner really did try and make our stay comfortable, but it was an environment that felt uncomfortable for me.  The zoo is closed and very overgrown. There are a couple of animals left. 

Pretty sad

Donna and hubby were perfect hosts.   Location requires a car.  Close to post Douglas and   Cap Trib experiences.

Ok. Don't waste your money. From the very dark entryway to the lack of animals, very badly maintained with food left rotting on the cage floors. There is an eagle that cannot fly due to something wrong with its wing. When we asked why and had a vet looked at it we were given the response of it's a rescue and dont know. I dont think we have the big eagles here in Aust and even if we do I would like to think they would be better looked after then that. 
The enclosures were covered in webs in ALL enclosures and not just overnight webs either..
They zoo only had half of the enclosures with animals and some of the birds were scouring the dirt looking for food. 
We booked and paid $170 for the night and $16 each for zoo admission before seeing . BIG MISTAKE
We were and are so upset by what we saw we left without staying the night.. 
They obviously are in the lull season cause the guy at the counter was glad noone was there. He actually said this to us.
I am so annoyed at myself for not taking photos to show you but please believe me the photos on this page and their web site is not what it is really like.
Would only give it a half star rating and that is only because the Black Cockatoo came to say hello.
We are well traveled from Aust to the USA and Cruise Ship. This is the worst animal enclosure we have EVER seen and the worst place would have EVER thought of staying at. 
If you only ever believe  1 review please 8 beg you . BELIEVE THIS ONE.

DO NOT GO

Pillows smelled like other people. Shared bathroom and no mention of that on website. Had to go outside to access shared ammenities. Toilet smelled. Hand basin and mirror very dirty.
