Rooms are clean. My room had a balcony. However the view is a construction of another building opposite the hotel. Glad to find a hair dryer in the room. Bedroom slippers are not the disposable ones. Bed size is normal. Pillow is too soft and don't provide support. Towels are smaller than the usual hotels. Location is walking distance to the cafes and night market. Go on a Friday night as the streets are blocked for night market which is just nearby the lake. The night market comes alive after 8pm. Night market is very clean. Not all stalls in night market can bargain though. Overall average hotel.

Simple budget accomodation

After following other reviews we were disappointed to arrive at the hotel and find the staff seemed to  have a rather unfriendly and unhelpful attitude to customers. No offer of a local map without ,paying no mention of places to see which does help the first time visitor feel welcomed. Facilities seemed jaded and in need of bettef ddcor and  repaint. Hotel had quite a few empty rooms which on a fdxtival weekend maybe says something about them needing to try harder. In comparison to all our stays so far where  we were met with smiles and a couldn't do enough for you approach the Thang Long seemed sadly lacking.

Attention to details

It has taken me an unconscionably long time to write this review, but that was not because I had to think twice about recommending the Thang Long.

Being a large hotel the Thang Long perhaps lacks the intimate atmosphere found in smaller establishments, but in every other way it is excellent:  friendly staff, clean, spacious and comfortable rooms with large bathrooms, convenient location.  The $12 room rate (double bed) does not include breakfast but the latter is available at low cost in the ground-floor restaurant.

For budget accommodation this hotel is truly excellent and I have no qualms about recommending it.

An excellent budget hotel

This was a recommendation from a regular traveller in the area and it was a good one.  The hotel is fairly new and the rooms are spotless,  large and well appointed, good bathroom and plenty of hot water.  The location is pretty good too, being on one of the main streets only a few blocks from the river.
We arrived off the train from HCMC, toally exhausted.  The perceptive gentleman at reception took one look at us, showed us to a room only one flight of stairs up (no lifts), and said, "Check in when you're ready," which we did after a most welcome nap.  Would that all receptionists were as solicitous!
Every morning we had a delicious breakfast, not sumptuous but well cooked and ordered off a menu.  All this for only $15 a double per night!  Certainly couldn't complain.
They were supposed to have internet access but it was broken while we were there.  Not a problem as there is a cheap internet shop right across the street.
Plenty of inexpensive, good cafes in easy walking distance.  If you're looking for excellent, budget accommodation, I highly recommend the Thang Long.
