A very good experience we had good and very clean rooms, great host with a positive attitude very good pub food with lots of choice of beers, the place had a very good view the beer garden with big function room perfect for any special occasion 

The Best Pub in Bromyard

Stayed for The Bromyard folk festival, Fantastic room, perfect overlooking the main street and glimpses of the square. Lovely, clean, beautiful. Loved the Staff, perfect excellent full English breakfast excellent banter in the bar. All in all an excellent stay. Thank you all very much. Enjoyed Morris dancers and the world champions Black Swan Rappers in the bar and the musicians playing throughout the evening incredible. Had an incredible folk festival weekend.

The Bromyard Folk Festival

Crown & septer pub as been closed for the past 10years it is now flats  food was very good music on a weekend great lovely surcure gardens over looking the bromyard downs was great for kids to play it's a shame to see the pub restaurant no longer here

Went for a drink with friends the last day of opening back in 2017

Happy to have found somewhere local to the Malvern Show with a family room at short notice through hotels.com we arrived at the Crown and Sceptre to join other guests already waiting for someone to come and let us in. They had no record of the booking, despite our confirmation from Hotels.com (I would advise anyone to check with the Inn directly to confirm that they know you are staying there - we were told by the young lad on duty that it has happens as they never get the emails from hotels.com and if someone else is already booked into the room, you would have to make alternative arrangements! I would have thought that if this happens they would have got to the bottom of this miscommunication by now - whoever/whatever is at fault). However the room was clean and comfortable. No chance of an evening meal as the Chef was away.. end of story! So it was a short walk down the road to The Inn at Bromyard for superb service and an excellent meal. Returning to the Inn we thought we'd have an evening drink.. we were the only customers, we did at this point, 3 hours after arriving, get the sole member of staff to search for cups for the tea maker seeing as the manageress hadn't turned up.
Breakfast was a very sociable affair.. the Inn was on full occupancy of four rooms with 9 guests as far as we were aware and our young host was now in the kitchen cooking the breakfast. In the dining area, we were left to forage for orange juice, cups. saucers  etc. there wasn't a breakfast menu.. we had what was available which made us laugh as I did read an earlier review that complained about not being able to get a poached egg, well they were lucky, they didn't have any eggs at all. We ate in shifts. My breakfast arrived after my wife and daughter had finished theirs, on the plus side I did get warm toast! The other two couples at breakfast with us also found the situation amusing.. The final younger couple arrived for breakfast, faced with the situation, turned around and left. The young lad on duty did his best, but organising breakfast for 9 wasn't his forte. Not sure what happened to the manageress, most places would have a back up plan with no chef/cook, if Basil Fawlty had turned up  it would have all made sense!. Such a pity we caught it when it was closing down with only two weeks to go and obviously as guests, we weren't a high priority (no reflection on the young lad who never did materialise anywhere from the kitchen after breakfast, in hiding I guess!)  Based on this visit, this was a comfortable bed for the night (In the deluxe triple room) at good price and as long as you meet the other guests at breakfast and sort out who's leaving the car park in what order, don't expect an evening meal until the chef is back from honeymoon and have a sense of humour in the morning, it was OK for a night, hence 3 stars!

A memorable stay!

Make no illusions, this is a bed for the night.  Room was clean, and the bed was made.  Otherwise, it could have been a lot nicer.  We called ahead as we were going to a wedding, they let us check in at 10AM so we could change and go to the wedding.  We arrived back at about 10:30PM.  On arrival, we were handed our key, no explanation as to where / when to find breakfast.  When we arrived back at 10:30PM the pub was already shut up, so we let ourselves in and went to bed.

The following morning we packed up and wandered through the pub, down a corridoor, to a back room to find other guests eating breakfast.  No staff to be seen.  The other guests said we needed to fend for our selves, there was no service.  No visible signs of tea, coffee, juice etc.  Apparently the cooked breakfast would just appear at somepoint.  We just left and went and got a nice breakfast with some service in Worcester on the way home.

Just somebody coming out, saying hello, and explaining about breakfast would have gone a long way here.  It didn't feel great at all.

A bed for the night, that's all

I booked a room here through Trip Adviser (via Expedia) but unfortunately there was some sort of glitch and there was no reservation for us when we arrived. I gave feedback to Expedia pointing this out ( but not blaming the pub as I don't know whose fault it was) and I received this back from the pub manager. I have had to remove a word that is too vulgar for Trip Advisor to be able to publish.

"Had no email regarding your booking sorry you never confirmed booking re phone call as someone with half intelligence would have gone on web site and rang, you [swear word removed} idiot"

I did try to contact the pub before arriving but the email address on their website is incorrect....not very good start really.

This rudeness and vulgarity is totally uncalled for and I am glad that we didn't stay. I still don't know where the fault was but it is clear that this person at The Crown and Sceptre should simply not be working in the hospitality industry.
