We stayed in Room 2 which was fab - bed was comfortable & huge, large walk in shower, roll top bath.  Nathan the Manager was a fabulous host.  The bar was so cosy with a great ambience & food was five star.  There wasnt cooked breakfast but you could boil eggs & then there was a vast selection of everything else. The room was very good value compared to larger hotels & I would definitely recommend to friends.

Fabulous

Received a nice welcome and the room (1) was really nicely decorated.
Unfortunately there were a few negatives.

Room 1, although not directly above the bar as far as I’m aware is extremely noisy from both the locals downstairs in the bar and from a 24/7 fairly loud noise which I can only assume is the sound of fridges in the kitchen.

There are no White Company toiletries in the room which are advertised on the website.

There needs to be a check on the cleaning, although the room itself was very clean along with the toilet, sink and shower, there was hair sitting in the bath plug hole  and there was also a used tooth pick and spot of blood on the bathroom floor which was pretty disgusting.

Breakfast had a decent supply of continental items but it was pretty depressing sitting in a very dimly lit room with a security camera staring at you whilst eating it.

Slightly disappointing stay

We arrived and have to be honest The Crown didn’t have much kerb appeal so we entered with trepidation. However Annie was friendly and welcoming
showing us to our room providing all the info we needed for our stay. The room was comfortable but small especially the shower room. Basic linens, towels and toiletries provided. All adequate but nothing special. The highlight for us was the Annie and Claudio who were a credit to the team. The food was delicious, especially the pork belly. It always surprises us that staff tend to be less attentive once the mains have finished! Desserts and coffee have to be prompted. Don’t think 12.5% service charge is appropriate at this level of establishment. Nonetheless they removed it willingly but some will feel uncomfortable asking, not because service was inferior, it’s just we feel you should be allowed to leave a gratuity at your own discretion. Still think The Crown is well worth a visit.

Sunday lunch with family

We were booked in for an overnight stay with an evening meal and breakfast and cannot fault the charm of the property and the enthusiasm of the staff.  We stayed in a deluxe room 2 which had a really comfortable Super King sized bed and massive bathroom with a large walk-in shower and separate bath (also with a shower head available).  The food was delightful too as was the breakfast choice in the morning.  All in all, a wonderful place to stay!

Delightful overnight stay

My husband and I have just spent a Saturday night here on the recommendation of a friend. We arrived at lunchtime, before our room was ready, and were greeted by our hosts, Annie and Claudio. Our overnight bag was whisked away (and, later, quietly taken up to our room for us) whilst we were settled in with drinks and lunch menus. Never before have we experienced such a warm and friendly welcome - and not just from the staff! Annie introduced us to the locals in the bar and we spent a truly wonderful afternoon and evening making new friends and enjoying the company of both the staff and locals.

The food was terrific; our room was pretty, clean and comfortable; and the service was sublime. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble and we honestly felt like we’d been spending time at The Crown for years. We cannot recommend this gem of a place highly enough: I’m already looking at dates to make a return visit.

Perfection!

My husband and myself visited the crown last Thursday. We both had the lamb shanks which were delicious! The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful… would definitely recommend it!

Fantastic!

Good selection of food, lovely twice baked souffle as a starter, especially good chicken and mushroom pie and also a choice of portion sizes.Friendly staff.The day we went it was very noisy and it was difficult to speak across the table.

Good  food

Have had excellent food and service at The Crown many, many times. But never reviewed them, kind of didn’t think about it as they are my local!

The Crown is a small, very attractive period building in a small, very attractive period village.

Mike the owner / host is sunny and welcoming, very engaging. Andy the chef delivers some wonderful, well above pub standard food, mostly locally sourced or with strong regional provenance. 

Importantly, 3 real ales and a decent wine list - this is a pub as much as an eatery, good for a pint or supper.

The only criticisms are the slow changing menu, could do with a little more freshening every month or so, and that the choices tend to be ‘heavier’, lighter options would help me take the wife more often :) 

Overall an excellent country pub that serves really well cooked food with a great friendly team that we’re lucky to live near to!
