Unique experience to stay in such a beautifully decorated hotel. The attention to detail reflects the amount of love the owners have put in to the home. The owners were so welcoming.  Can’t wait to be back.

Magical night in Victorian Luxury

I would highly recommend this beautifully decorated bed & breakfast!  Extremely comfortable bed & the room was  Exquisitely decorated in the Era that the house was built.
The owner Harold is friendly, warm & welcoming when you arrive & kindly shows you to your room. Breakfast was delicious especially the freshly blended fruit. (Also done by Harold the owner)

Perfect night away

The Victorian B&B offers an unusual 'themed' B&B experience. The bed was comfy and the breakfast was ample. Harold is a courteous and helpful host. We enjoyed the offer of afternoon tea in the garden on arrival. Highly recommended.

Wonderful B&B, beautifully decorated with many antiques in Victorian style, relaxing, quiet, delicious breakfast, clean room & lovely bath amenities, big thanks to owner Harold, I will definitely stay here again upon my every visit to Royal Tunbridge Wells, no second choice & strongly recommended.

Awesome Room & Breakfast

We decided to stay 2-nights in Royal Tunbridge Wells as we wanted to be able to drive to nearby Groombridge Place (film location for ‘Longbourn’, the home of the Bennetts in the US production of ‘Pride & Prejudice’). I cannot express how immensely happy we were to have selected to stay here as it is a once in a lifetime experience for more reasons that I can mention in this review. From the outside along Landsdowne Road, it looks just like one of the lovely detached houses, but once you enter, the curtain of the modern world drops behind you and you are instantly transported to the 1800s, amidst this compact replica of a palace setting. Replete with old and countless memorabilia referred to as ‘Victoriana’; we were ‘engulfed’ by gorgeous period furniture, furnishings, portraiture, antiques right down to the lamps, chandeliers and light switches, chinaware, silverware, with rooms clad in the splendor of William Morris, Ralph Lauren and Watts of Westminster wallpapering and curtains made from rich fabrics (I was told) as old as a hundred years. There is a small sitting area as you enter, but the main drawing room, decked in Ralph Lauren’s floral ‘Camiila’ wallpaper, grand piano, comfy sofa and armchair exudes an opulent yet warm and cosy ambience. While indulging in this sumptuous décor, Harold comes in with an elegant tray with silverware for a tea serving (and yes, there is a history to this ensemble as well), he also asks if we would like some Victorian Sponge Cake (you are kidding me –this is what I was longing for!) which he happened to have made that day.  Next we head to our room which was mesmerizing with more exquisite collections on display including a 3-panelled screen embedded with old photos by Francis Firth. Draw the curtains, and you are just absorbed into an atmosphere of regality with the high headboard, plush bed, fireplace and once again antique furniture, each with a history registered in Harold’s brilliant memory. Like a Roman candle, the next spark of surprise came when Harold revealed that the door to the bathroom was actually the last section of the screen blended against the wall. It was another ‘wow’ moment when we saw this deep green toned Victorian bathroom that was beyond anything I would have imagined in a B&B with its antique Victorian freestanding clawfoot bath tub, the Victorian toilet bench and antique ceramic bowl, the stained glass window of a knight and child, and the shower area refitted from a wooden corner wardrobe and encased with stained glass so that when you pulled the light switch, the angels would light up while you showered. Among the other ornamentations, there is a framed photo of Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim (the ‘Munshi’). Just unbelievable how so much thought has been invested into creating such a masterpiece. We made an effort, therefore, each day to spend relaxing moments enjoying the bath and everything around it.
The next morning, we looked forward to a fine breakfast, with the privilege of eating out of exquisite tableware in an elaborate dining room which had for its centerpiece a large portrait of Kaiser Frederich III (the connection? he was married to Queen Victoria’s eldest child/daughter). 
After breakfast we spent some time in the lovely garden that was being tended with the help of Harold’s friend. I was happy to see the bluebells, rhododendrons and azaleas in full bloom, among all the other lovely flowers (I remember not the names). It was also a first for me to see a flowering Magnolia tree.
We loved Harold’s place so much that we cut back on our planned activities to spend more time relishing the splendidness of the place and enjoying the fruits of Harold’s immense hard work, vision, wisdom, grit and talent in the fulfillment of his lifetime dream. Our gentle and humble host Mr Harold Brown, displays the finesse and perfection inconceivable to a great many regular folks like us.  Truly an amazing discovery for an incurable romantic as myself. The only set back I should mention is that check-in time is at 4 pm because Harold does all the work almost by himself.

Victorian treasures in a 4-storey chest

Harold is a very interesting person and so welcoming. Afternoon tea and home made Victoria sponge by the fire was fantastic. Surrounded by interesting books and history all around. Bed was so comfortable I could have missed breakfast just to have a little longer.Breakfast was wonderful. Again in a room surrounded by history. Our stay was within walking distance of the Town Centre to visit friends. Harold is a true Gentleman and has an amazing place. Will definitely be coming back to stay here again. Thank you Harold for giving us this opportunity to be welcomed in to such a wonderful place.

Amazing

On the day we were travelling to Tunbridge Wells, Harold emailed us to find out our arrival time and to invite us to afternoon tea. He was incredible helpful and was very welcoming when we arrived to his amazing B&B. It is a living museum to all things Victorian and is not only fascinating but authentic and finished to a very high standard. We had the William Morris room, which was a truly unique experience. Breakfast was excellent and served in yet another breathtaking room.

It was a wonderful night's stay and I would not hesitate to recommend it. Only small complaint was that the shower is very small and we did not get shampoo or conditioner (but did get shower gel & body cream). But minute detail.

A National Treasure

A one night stop off that proved a good decision. The host was a joy....such a nice chap; and the environs are 100% genuine. A little bit of Victoria and Albert in deepest Royal Tunbridge Wells. Give it s whirl!!
