Wow……. What an amazing find! A beautiful tradition pub locked away in a cobbled square, on a hillside. in a quiet Lancashire village. 

We were warmly greeted by the bar staff and showed our room for our overnight stay.. Our boutique style suite was beautifully designed with a country house theme and was comfortable, clean and welcoming, with complementary coffee pods, tea chocolate and biscuits.

We enjoyed a bar meal before heading out. The menu consists of traditional home cooked food, which was superbly cooked and presented. We both had pies which were amazing tasty ( the homemade mince and onion pie was combined with bovril gravy and was topped with pulled beef #great combo)
The breakfast was a full english and was also cooked to perfection, nothing was lacking!

Tea and overnight stay at The Red Lion in Whitworth

I recently went to the Red Lion for an evening meal and it did not disappoint. The staff were warm and welcoming, and so too were the other diners. The food was amazing, my mushroom soup and bread loaf was exactly what you imagine from a country pub, and my partner enjoyed a mixed grill. Service with a smile, quaint decor, and friendly atmosphere. 10/10 experience. Can't wait to come back soon!

Lovely food and atmosphere

Visited with some friends. Not been here for many years but had heard the pub had been taken over. Not disappointed with the food - the best pub food I have eaten in the area for a while. Lots of choice and not just the usual pie/fish n chips/burgers etc. Will def be back. Only issue was it was a bit cold so has to keep my coat on but it warmed up as the night went on

Great food

Popped in for Sunday Lunch and was not disappointed! Had roast beef and absolutely loved it! Gravy was lovely, roast potatoes had lots of seasoning, the beef was very tender and tasty and the Yorkshire pudding melted in your mouth. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Sunday roast! Staff really friendly and prices are reasonable. Great location too! Hopefully will be back soon! 

Best Roast Sunday Dinner!

We had the Sunday lunch and it was great to see so much variety, including a vegetarian option. We had an excellent meal, great value and friendly staff. A lovely place for a drink or bite to eat, with great walks around the pub. Very welcoming too. 

Sunday lunch superb

Gem of a place with hospitable staff and good pub food. Only small criticism is that they don't do breakfast during the week which given the room rate is a bit of a setback. Despite the rooms being over a pub I got good night's sleep and enjoyed my stay.

Friendly comfort

Normally I stay in Manchester but this time I could not find a hotel. 

Got the last room at the red lion & I absolutely loved it. 

Everyone was very friendly, room rates were excellent.

Room was very clear, eat out that night but the menu looked great. 

Great value, clean with a touch of home. 



A little Gem. 

16th Century pub in a stunning location, with cobbled square out the front and overlooked by an even older church with fabulous gargoyles; lovely food and warm, friendly, helpful  staff. We definitely recommend it.

Great place for lunch or dinner

Great location and pub.  Friendly staff and lovely food.  Room was spotless and a great size, but what let them down no one lives on the premises during the night.  Our stay was disrupted by two men lying outside out bedroom drunk and smoking by the fire exit making a noise by shouting and banging on our bedroom wall.  I went out twice to them and they just laughed.  I telephone the number in the brochure and a chap did come but by this time 3.40am they had gone to bed or left the premises.  The following morning I did address this and was promised an e mail from the manager regarding the incident.  I emailed the pub but todate have not received any notification back from them.    A treat for an evening away ruined by drunks.  Would have liked to have made this a memorable time and the possibility of returning at some point, but not happy.  Cost £75 a night to lie on a bed and try to sleep, but not allowed to due to others.  Very disheartened that no reply has been sent from the pub.
