What a lovely guest house and host ideally situated for everything. We had the small double which was perfectly big enough with everything we needed. Short walk into Leith and quick bus ride into town. Couldn't have asked for more, would stay again 

2 night city stop

Recently spent 3 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our host Gill was great and very welcoming. The room was beautiful and traditional. Nice choices for breakfast too. The sausages were delicious.

Lovely place

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at The Bonnington whilst visiting Edinburgh and have no complaints at all - Highly recommend to all. 

Don't be put off by the 'dirty' look of the stone building as that's just the property stock in the area as the inside of the hotel is clean, welcoming with a quiet calm atmosphere.

We had the room on the top floor, Room 4, which was the Attic Room. It was so lovely. Yes it was a little small but perfectly acceptable and ticked all the boxes - Room overlooks the side of Victoria Park and is in a quiet location and the room is really cool (as in temperature!)

As my wife says, you don't come on holiday to sit in the B and B so it was everything we wanted/needed and sure majority of travellers would agree. The bathroom was small with an arched ceiling but was perfectly fine with the bath nice and warm. 

Wifi connection in the room was good and a freeview television on the wall. The decanter of sherry was a nice touch and ample supplies of tea/coffee are provided. Read a few reviews about grey dirty towels which was bizarre, ours were plain white, fluffy and clean!

Upon arrival we were a little early and the owner (Gill) was not in. Wasn't a problem, her mum let us in and showed us to the room with our keys. We didn't actually see Gill till the following morning at breakfast but communicated with her via note left in reception area to which she replied to our request for a slightly earlier breakfast due to needing to get a train at 930 (Breakfast is 830am); Thought that was a nice touch and there was no rush for us to pay her either (finally did Saturday morning). 

Even nicer was on checkout, she let us have our room till 130pm so we could go out somewhere on the morning before we needed to leave - Obviously this was only the case as no one was in the room behind us, but showed Gill had a really kind attitude and was aiming to please - Sure it wouldn't be a problem to leave bags in reception area anyway if you didn't need to vacate bang on check out time!

Breakfast was the usual choice of cereals, toast and 3 cooked options. I had the cooked option each day and it was fine. My wife said her scrambled eggs were also good! No issues at all with breakfast and we made the most of it to set us up for the day!

Bus links to the town are excellent, indeed all the Edinburgh local transport is good. Taxis are very expensive so use the buses - 7/11/14 all have stops within 1 minute walk of the B and B and provide fast frequent services to the city. Recommend Bus 7 for North Bridge/The station whilst 11 drops you off in Princes Street but some way down. The B and B is also well located to get to Newhaven and Royal Yacht Britannia - Again walkable (20-25 minutes) or jump on the Number 7/11 (make sure you go in the right direction which we failed to do once!)

It really was 'Just the Job' and whilst we probably won't need to visit Edinburgh again, we would definitely try to book at The Bonnington again if we did.

Just the Job!

The couple who run the guest house were very helpful and welcoming. The room was clean. We walked in the centre of Edinburgh which took about 30 minutes, a nice walk.
Breakfast was very good. Recommended.

Lovely Stay in Edinburgh

My wife and I recently stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay with no issues. The property is very well maintained and tastefully decorated. Our room (no. 3) on the first floor overlooked Victoria Park and was compact but well equipped with complimentary toiletries, tea/ coffee etc. plus the additional bonus of a Tunnock’s Caramel bar and sherry. Small TV on wall. WIFI connection good. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The owner (Gill) and the lady helping at breakfast (sorry name not known) were very welcoming and friendly. The house is within easy walking distance to Leith sea front (Royal Yacht Britannia) and Newhaven (harbour and restaurants) and bus stops into Edinburgh city centre are just down the road.  

One tip – the Great Junction Street stop (no. 8) on the Majestic tour bus is not far away and if you have purchased one of their tickets (e.g. The Royal Edinburgh 48 hour ticket) then you can travel into the city centre (and return journey) with that ticket at no extra cost, although the Majestic tour only operates every 30 minutes during the day. Local buses are more frequent.

Highly recommended

This is the perfect B&B, just a 15 minute bus ride outside of the busy city of Edinburgh, located in Bonnington between Newhaven and Leith. Gill is such a lovely host. The rooms are decorated well and very spacious. We had a room on the 1st floor and had a private bathroom across the hall which we could lock from outside if we wanted to. At breakfast there is a choice of fruit, yoghurts, cereal, toast and fresh juices and then you can also have a hot breakfast if you wish. We had the full cooked breakfast one day and then opted for eggs on toast for the others because we wanted to keep some room for the Scottish food throughout the day in Edinburgh.  As mentioned the B&B is only about a 15 minute bus ride in to the centre of Edinburgh  (Princes Street), we used the number 11 bus (£1.70 single fare). We also walked from the B&B to Leith Port where the Royal Britannia Yacht is and also walked to the Royal Botanic Gardens, both of which were about a 15-20 minute walk. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to friends and family if asked for somewhere to stay in Edinburgh.

Nice B&B, lovely host, great location

We were in Edinburgh for a few days when my choir were singing at the Usher Hall. We chose the Bonnington on the basis that it was reasonably inexpensive and had car parking. But it was so much more 

A splendid Victorian villa in a quiet part of town, but only 15 minutes away from the town centre on the number 11 bus (100 yards to the stop). Our top floor room was small, but comfortable and, like the rest of the house, spotlessly clean and well decorated.
Breakfast was lovely and Gill was keen to ensure we got the most out of our visit. Newhaven seafront was a short walk away, with good places to eat and beautiful sunsets. 
Really recommend the Bonnington- we couldn’t have chosen anywhere better for us
