This is a charming family run hotel with an interesting history.    A delicious three course dinner is included in the room rate accompanied by a varied wine list to suit all tastes and budgets. A well stocked bar is perfect for pre and post dinner drinks in the lounge. Ideal for those who, like us, don't want to have to drive , or leave the hotel for  dinner!  

We spent 2 days there and Angus recommended a number of places to visit. We opted for a walk between 2 small villages on the coast but could easily have travelled to a number of towns in the surrounding area. Great location to explore the local area.

Charming Country House Hotel 

We have now stayed at Cavens several times, and it continues to maintain it's excellence. This is a quiet, comfortable country house hotel where you are personally welcomed as a friend. Angus cooks local produce beautifully, and the portion sizes are perfectly judged to be satisfying without overwhelming capacity. The wine list is extensive and always interesting. We will be back!

Well worth repeat visits, Cavens maintains its high standards

My wife and I have stayed at Cavens in the past and have always been warmly welcomed. Our recent stay did not disappoint. The hotel is very comfortable, the service excellent and the food superb. The hotel is in a beautiful part of the country with access to walking along the coast and hills and access to both historic sights and gardens.

Excellent hotel with a friendly atmosphere

We spent a wonderful few days at Cavens Country House.  The scene was set from the moment we arrived, with silver service tea and delicious fruit cake served on the patio overlooking the beautiful gardens in the sunshine.
Our hosts, Angus and Jane, were absolutely delightful as were all the staff.  We also loved meeting the Labradors (by appointment - they are not allowed to roam!)
Reception rooms and bedrooms were spacious and beautifully furnished with family photos and books in true homely style.
Both breakfast and dinner were simply fabulous.  We so enjoyed our pre dinner drinks in the knowledge that a wonderful meal awaited.
Service was at all times thoughtful, personal and efficient.  Every detail was perfect.
Thank you, Angus and Jane.. we’ll be back at the earliest opportunity!

Wonderful few days at idyllic Cavens!

This was our first visit to Cavens and we  greatly enjoyed the hospitality and superb food provided  by Angus and Jane
Although we had booked the cheapest room we were offered a choice - at no extra cost. This was a very nice gesture and  greatly appreciated
Our room was spacious, well furnished and immaculately clean.
The En Suite was on the small side but perfectly adequate
The kindness and personal touch shown to us by our hosts was exceptional
We look forward to a return visit



A Country Home with a personal touch

A group of friends and I spent a  'country house weekend' at Cavens. We were the only guests at the hotel and were able chose the food and wine, and chose when we would like to eat in the evening. We were greeted by afternoon tea on arrival and were soon joined by friends from all around the UK for a post covid reunion.
We were lucky with the weather the next day and took the dog a walk from Rockcliffe to Kippford along the coast watching the boats on the bay. We went on to Kirkcudbright to have lunch and visited Broughton house/gallery (former home of the artist Hornel)  and his Japanese garden with the acers looking beautiful in autumn colours. We could have spent longer in the area. Both dinners in the evening were delicious. (food chosen beforehand and freshly cooked with local ingredients). We all had to have the same meal with a choice of dessert. This was our third visit and everyone of the group enjoyed themselves. The rooms were very comfortable, spotlessly clean. The staff were well trained and friendly. Angus and Jane, the hosts, were  experts in creating a relaxing comfortable atmosphere. We will be back.!

A wonderful weekend at Cavens country House Hotel

Stayed 2 nights and loved the place. The hosts Angus and Jane are wonderful and make you feel at home and nothing seems too much trouble for them.

Accommodation is great and the food excellent. 

I recommend this hotel and we will be returning.

Lovely stay

We had a lovely and relaxing stay. The food and accommodation are superb and the rooms very comfortable and clean. Our hosts Jane and Angus couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Highly recommended. We will definitely be returning.

A wonderful stay in beautiful surroundings.
A true country house experience.
Jane and Angus are attentive hosts and nothing is to much trouble. Our room was stunning and the food absolutely delicious.
Lots of comfy lounge space to "chill" and just relax.
We will certainly return.

Brilliant stay at Cavens

This is our third visit to the wonderful Cavens. Jane and Angus Fordyce always provide a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere, with every attention to detail. Angus s cooking is not to be missed. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
