SOGO Dept. Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT

Sogo Department store can be entered from Zhongxiao Fuxing metro station. There are actually two SOGO stores across the street from each other. The subway exit enters directly into the basement level of the newer 11 floor department store. The basement level has a gourmet supermarket, many bakeries, gourmet food outlets. It’s always fun to look at all the foods and imported foods from around the world at very high prices. A bag of Canadian Kettle potato chips was $20 Cad ($3 in Canada). There was a famous Singaporean meat jerky store (Bee Cheng Hiang) where sheets of grilled jerky cost 410NT per 300g ($28Cad/lb), exceptionally expensive. Bakeries had great baked goods but expect to pay double for all baked goods as compared to costs from other bakeries . Sogo tends to be high end, where everything is priced double. As for the food court and restaurants, Haagen Das was there, lots of offerings. There was even a Din Dai Fung, a famous Michelin rated restaurant where you can always watch the guys through the window making the dumplings by hand. It is a real art to make 18 folds in a single dumpling at the top. Always a lineup with wait time of at least an hour to get a table there, but you can also order takeout in about 10 minutes to cook yourself. Next floor up were designer stores like Chanel, Gucci, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, etc. Next floor up, more designer labels like Max Mara, Marc Jacobs. As you go up the floors you get sportswear floors, kitchenware floors, appliance floors. I loved the hand blown glass art shop. About the 10th floor there is a mock Japanese garden all lit up with giant insects all over it. The last floor has restaurants and an Amadeus coffee shop, very elegant. Sogo Department Store is a great place to visit on a rainy day or stat holiday when everything else is closed.
