As a woman alone, and looking for a save place in a grazy town sometimes...iT was so Nice!! 
The host was very welcome To me And took care of Everything!! Even a trainticket To Ella:-) 
Nice place To stay, perfect location with a Nice food take-away Just on the corner!!

Our experience at Castelo was absolutely fabulous! We stayed at Castelo for 3 nights from Dec 28-30. We were a group of 13 (3 families with 7 grown up kids ranging from 16-22 from Australia, US, & India). We rented 5 rooms. The rooms were spotless clean, very spacious, & modern (especially the bathrooms) . The staff were really friendly, sincere, & attentive to even the smallest of needs. The manager Dilani suggested that we attend the Kandyan dance. She went out of her way to walk me down to the cultural center to show me the place to where we needed to be at 5PM. She had first row seats reserved for all of us. What a show! We were completely blown away by the skill and energy of the performance.   

Po the housekeeper and his assistant were ever attentive and had our breakfast for all 13 of us ready in the morning in the verandah. There is also an excellent café down the hill (about 30 meters from Castelo) where there have a great variety of food & shakes that you can pack up & bring back and enjoy back in the hotel. My kids who play competitive tennis even used the clay courts at the bottom of the hill at the club for a small fee.

I hiighly recommend Castelo for it's location, friendly staff & excellent quality.

Cozy, Great Hospitality, Great Location, Clean, Spacious, & Super Friendly Staff

As part of our tour my husband and I stayed at this run down awful hotel, it was our fault that it was booked for us as we went for the cheaper option hotel based on the reviews here on tripadvisor, our tour guide advised is against it because their previous clients had already given them negative feedback. Thank God it was only one night!
We arrived and put our bags in then went to do activities and dinner. Returning after dark we settled in to our room desperate for a shower and some down time. The shower was not clean, previous guests' hair was clogging the drain, mould all over the bathroom, I didn't want to accidentally touch the walls. This is the first hotel I've been to where there isn't even a bar of soap for the guests! 
We then heard a scratching noise near the desk and couldn't locate the animal making the noise but we had seen some animal droppings behind the curtain on the wall so fairly sure there was something in there. 
Upon inspection, the bed had only one bottom sheet on it, which had some black marks on it, we looked for another sheet in the cupboard which smelled suspicious, and found only 1 sheet which was grey and dirty with marks all over it. We went out to ask the receptionist for another and found all lights off at 10.30pm and two people lying on the floor sleeping in the reception area with the doors all locked! Lucky we didn't come back late or want to go back out!
We tried to rip the top sheet off the single bed in our room to use it but it had a huge yellow stain down the side that was pushed against the wall. In desperation we were forced to wake the sleeping receptionists and get another sheet from them even though their response was to "look in the cupboard". They finally produced another grey and slightly less marked sheet from a back room somewhere. 
Awful sleepless night worrying about animals in the room and then with something slamming into our window from outside at about 11.30pm (could have been a monkey so can't blame anyone for that).
Feedback was given to the manager upon departing the next morning, unfortunately the hotel also needs some renovations as well, I would avoid. 

Awful hotel, who on earth would review as "good"?

We had and excellent stay at Castelo. Friendly staff, clean rooms and great food. Located in a quite neighborhood. The food is cooked to order so will take sometime but well worth the wait. Highly recommended.

Great stay in Kandy

We loved the hotel our room was large, beautifully clean, a very professionally
 run operation. They certainly captured the old colonial feel when they renovated.
The coffee shop was great, nothing over stated, just good tastey food ,wonderfully Strong tea. All at a very reasonable price

We came for the Famous Open Mic night, i was also performing, What a great night!!!!
