The staff were absolutely amazing. Always there from check in to check out to make sure I was well looked after. Everyone had a wonderful smile that always made it a lovely environment. Aircon was great and room spacious.

Great stay in one historic hotel of Jaffna

The room was good but the attention and care from the staff made it an excellent stay. Great location: able to walk into town easily. The on site bar was very nice with a good range of snacks and the local breakfast was just right.

As an American tourist, I decided to visit Jaffna and do some sightseeing there. Hence, I booked a room at Subhas Hotel for 2 nights. The bed was extremely comfortable.The hotel food was local Jaffna Sri Lankan food and very reasonable in price while also being very delicious. The hotel staff were also very courteous.In terms of convenience for exploration of the city by walking, I also found the hotel to be reasonable close to the main Jaffna city area while also managing to be in a hidden quiet area. For example, it was quite manageable to walk to Jaffna Fort.On the first night, it began to rain while I was at the Rio ice cream place which was around a 25 minute walk away from the hotel. I tried to get a tuktuk or even an Uber back to the hotel, but due to high demand from the rain, it was impossible. So, finally, around 10:30 PM, I sent a message to the hotel asking if they could send transportation to pick me up. I was not sure if the hotel had gotten the message, and I started walking back on the side of the road in the rain using the Google maps while a dog was following me from a distance. Most fortunately, out of the blue, one of the hotel staff suddenly found me, and we then quickly got back to the hotel on his motorcycle.Later, the hotel also helped me book my night bus ticket to Negombo, and complimentary motorcycle transport (with a helmet for me) was provided for both picking up the bus ticket and later at night to the bus pick up point.

Overall had a great experience at this property. Located right in the heart of the city and accessible to many food options and places. Great staff members and accommodated to our requests.

Since the end of the civil war in 2009, many new hotels have emerged in Jaffna, providing more accommodation options for visitors. I chose to stay at Subhas Hotel to relive some nostalgic memories, and while my experience was a unique one, I thought it worth sharing for those considering a visit.For travelers from outside the northern region of Sri Lanka, it’s essential to manage expectations. The “deluxe room” provided me with air conditioning and a clean bed, which was a welcome relief. However, the amenities had their quirks—the shower in the washroom was not functional, requiring me to use a bucket and bowl for bathing. Additionally, while there was a toilet roll in the room, the lack of modern conveniences like toilet paper was notable.Breakfast was complimentary and adequate, though the room's windows lacked proper blackout curtains, allowing bright light to filter in during the early morning hours. On a positive note, the staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, attending to all of my requests with warmth and efficiency.I do not intend to deliver a negative review; rather, I aim to provide an honest depiction of the accommodations for those unfamiliar with the region. If you’re looking to connect with Jaffna’s history and culture, Subhas Hotel is worth considering. However, if you are accustomed to contemporary hotel standards, you may want to explore other options in the area. Enjoy your stay in Jaffna!

I arrived at the property at 5 AM. I was waiting outside the hotel and to my surprise the gentleman on  night duty at the desk let me check in!

We spent 2 nights in Jaffna. Comfortable accommodation with AC and hot water for bathing.  Included breakfast, friendly staff at a reasonable rate.
