Price different from booking.com, I'm told on arrival that the price of the room is not at all the same as my booking booking, but much more expensive. The owner didn't bother to warn me in advance (gift for the AR taxi ride) or apologize when I arrived, it would have been like it was my fault 😳.

Fake price announced

I lived in Shirani's house, Deutsche Villa for over 6 months.
For me, it was the best place in Sri Lanka, among over 20 that I stayed in.
The house is clean and maintained, as this is where she also lives, so she takes good care of it.
There is also swimming pool which I loved. Best option to cool yourself in the sri lankan heat.
The room that I stayed in (last room upstairs) has the most comfortable mattress to sleep EVER. Big, properly hard,ortopedic, perfect for a person that wants to have good sleep.
There is also good amount of daylight in the room, perfect if you have some work on computer or reading to do.
In the house there is also kitchen and washing washine. All works like it should be.
There are also two funny and friendly dogs that love to play with the guests :)

In Sri Lanka most of the guesthouses and hotels have always some problem that after some time drives you crazy. That's why I stayed here, as I knew that I will live without problems here.

ABSOLUTE HELL – UGLY FAMILY QUARRELS BETWEEN NEGLIGENT OWNER AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SON A CONSTANT NIGHTMARE
Cherani, the owner, threatened to report me to the airport police if I wrote a review, and said she would sue me for 150,000 US$! So beware, this place is a major centre for the worst things that go on in Hikkaduwa!  
Ugly, dramatic family quarrels with the owner’s teenage son make this place absolute HELL!!! As soon as I arrived, I was greeted with this family’s violent substance abuse drama. The 18-year old son was always shouting and yelling furiously, and would angrily charge through the front gate on his motorbike. Almighty quarrels several times a day between the owner and her son ruined my stay, which should have been quiet and peaceful, as the guesthouse overlooks green paddy fields. The son is heavily involved in substance abuse, including heroin, a heavy smoker and a heavy drinker, and he speeds around Hikkaduwa on a motorbike with no number plates. His behaviour means the police often come to question the owner, Cherani, but she would always make excuses to the police to protect her son, and then burst into fits of hysterical crying when they left. She forgot to buy fresh food for my evening meal, so I often got served the leftovers from her lunch, such as a lentil soup, made simply by putting a couple of spoons of her leftover dahl into the blender with some water, and served without bread, as she had forgotten to buy any. Sometimes, she would give me stale bread which she keeps in a plastic bag, swarming with ants, and then just pop a couple of slices into the toaster and serve them to me. Disgusting! Not surprisingly, one night I was as sick as a dog.  
Instead of greeting me with a nice “good morning,” the owner would burst onto the terrace saying, “BIG PROBLEM!” and then update me on the latest news about her son and all the bills she had to pay. She clearly found making my breakfast a big nuisance, as she quickly flipped an egg into the frying pan, plonked it onto a little plate and hurriedly made the fruit smoothie, using MY milk powder, as she had run out. The bread usually came later, as she couldn’t be bothered to serve breakfast properly. There was no tea or coffee. Not once did she change the tablecloth or clean the table where I had my meals. I often had to make my own breakfast, and I always cleared the table myself, as Cherani would disappear as quickly as she could to go to her mother’s house, where she spent most of her time. Sometimes, Cherani would leave the house to go to her mother’s place without even making me any breakfast at all, and without even buying the necessary items beforehand, so I would have to call her and ask her to come back and prepare it! Consequently, breakfast was often served as late as 10 o’clock! What an appalling start to the day! 
The owner couldn’t be bothered with running her guesthouse. As soon as she returned from her mother’s house, Cherani would start telling me all about her problems regarding her son’s serious substance abuse, and then engage in several very loud, marathon telephone calls to her various family relations, which totally destroyed the tranquillity of the place. Every day, Cherani promised me she would send her son away from the house, but this never happened, despite the very, very dramatic fighting and quarrelling that took place as soon as he charged into the house, shouting and yelling his head off. She even reported him to the police on several occasions, asking them to stop her son from coming to the guesthouse, but then failed to follow up, so he was always there. Sometimes he would return in the middle of the night, and make such a massive noise he would wake me up. Cherani always had an excuse for her son’s disgusting behaviour.
Cherani put a very bad quality sheet on my bed, and the cotton was so rough I asked her to change it, but it took her a full four days just to get round to finally changing it, because she was always so busy running around after her son, and because she preferred to stay at her mother’s house rather than run her business professionally. She complained when I asked her to change my towel. “You need a clean towel every day?” she moaned. Once, when I asked her 21-year old daughter to change my towel, she slammed back at me, NO! I AM NOT YOUR SERVANT! Only once during my stay did Cherani clean my room, but even then, she didn’t bother to clean the bathroom.
On my last day, I had to ask Cherani, as usual, to prepare my breakfast, because otherwise she would just forget. But she told me her son had gone off on her scooter, so maybe breakfast wasn’t possible that day. She said she would try to call him on his mobile phone, but she also warned me he might not answer, and even if he did answer, it was unlikely he would bother to buy the bread and eggs for my breakfast. So she just plonked an old egg into the frying pan, and then disappeared, leaving me to finish cooking it and serve it myself! Eventually her son appeared with a loaf of bread, so an hour after my single fried egg, I got the bread that was supposed to be served with it. 
I reported Cherani, who initially appears to be very kind and helpful, to the police. She told me she had taken my passport and was going to cut it! She threatened to go to the airport police if I wrote a review about my stay at Deutsche Villa, and threatened she would take me to court and sue me for 150,000 US$ if I wrote a review about the ugly quarrelling and drug-abuse at her guesthouse.   
It is hard to imagine a less professional approach to running a business! It is not just the vile behaviour of her teenage son that makes this place hell, it is also the totally indifferent attitude of Cherani, who seems to regard her guests as an easy source of easy money to maintain her son’s substance abuse and support her elderly mother, while neglecting all her responsibilities towards her paying guests. Cherani, her son and her brother are very nasty, threatening and violent people, so don’t be deceived by Cherani’s apparent kindness. It’s fake.
