This is clean comfortable and the owners are extremely helpful, I left for Kandy for 4 days and Vim said he'd get my laundry sorted and look after my heavy bags till I get back, the pool does have leaves in it but it is under a tree and there is a pool scoop to get em out lol, great value place in colombo 

The location is at the end of Ward Place. Still within walking distance of ODEL etc. The original Skyways was a few yards in front of the present location (Now: called Rockwool Boutique Hotel or so).  Skyways is a family run 'hotel' and located in an interesting old building. With a huge beautiful tree right in the middle of it. The rooms are small, but all with new a/c's . Warm water is on and off. So is everything else there...Rates are OK for this location.

There are different rooms available so I am only commenting on the ground floor room that I have stayed at. The room had some good and bad points. The floor in the room was new and the whole bathroom was recently renovated, nice and clean (which is rare in the lower cost places in Sri Lanka). The bed-sheets where bad - I used my own, but the bed itself was very big and comfortable. 
The hotel is big and there are cool sitting places with comfortable couches and TV, as well as a great rooftop terrace. One disadvantage is that the Wifi covers only a small space in this big hotel and I had to go up three floors to use it. I see comments saying that the prices are high, but having lived in Sri Lanka for over a year I know that it is just the "tourist tax". If you know how much it should be, and you know how to haggle, it is actually one of the cheaper places to stay in Colombo in such a good location.

Weird. But Central and Good

Great location but remember to haggle

The room was pretty clean and had aircon, a tv and bed lamp although nothing to plug them into so all for show. Pool had so many dead bugs floating in it you wouldn't bother going for a swim and wifi was slow and intermittent. Not a bad area though and the proprietor was nice, although the place is pretty much desolate.

Complaints about the hotel details...

There was a pool, it wasn't really outdoor as it was under cover and it was unpleasantly opaque. The water wasn't clear, and due to the proximity of the tree had plenty of leaves in it. There is no sun terrace or seats. There were no bathrobes and the toiletries were a very small bar of soap. There is a 24 hour front desk but it is never manned. The desk is there but no way of contacting anyone for any help. There is a kitchen but it's unusable due to the amount of junk in there, and there are no utensils or crockery to use. There is no hairdressers.
As there is no information in reception there is no opportunity to hire bikes or cars if you wanted to.

Complaints about the room details

There was a TV, but it didn't work so I can't comment on the availability of cable channels. There was no bathrobes. There was a refrigerator locked away in a cupboard as that too didn't work. We were assured that one would be provided. We were there three nights and it never materialised. There was no view other than into the seating area in the reception. No wake up service as there was no-one from whom to request it. No mosquito net. No garden view, in fact , no garden at all. No pool view. No cleaning products. No towels. No bed linen, a bottom sheet and a unpleasant scratchy blanket, the pillowcases were also made from the scratchy material. The pillows were really thin.The mattress cover was horribly stained. No clothes rack. No grab rails.

Other issues...the fan only worked when the light was on, the aircon was way too cold to have on at night with no top sheet, we couldn't use the horrible blanket. There was an large open hole, at least a foot square, in the bathroom allowing mosquitos in at all times. This was the only place my husband was bitten in three weeks. The room has no natural light as the only window was onto reception, requiring the curtains to be drawn at all times for privacy. The plug alongside the bed didn't work, so the bedside light was useless, especially as it had no lightbulb in it. The details do say towels and linen are available at a fee, but again, as there is no-one to ask this isn't an option.

I would avoid this place completely, it has nothing to recommend it.  The location wasn't brilliant either. Nowhere to eat or have a drink within easy walking distance. They demanded cash on arrival, expected US dollars for some reason.  I had to work the conversion out. Luckily the only bonus was the ATM was close by. The only reason anyone was in reception when we arrived was our driver was in phone contact trying to find the place

The details about the room and hotel are misleading....and that's being very polite. Don't book this
