Cocovillas is right on the beach, with a beautiful garden, with hammocks, sun beds, and plenty of space to relax and feel like you are almost alone. The host is very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Lovely food and careful service. Happy to recommend!

Beautiful and calm

I stayed at CocoVilla at the end of my Sri Lanka vacations and it was amazing.
The property is super pretty and very well maintained. It's an oasis of tranquility and if you are looking to relax and unwind, this is the place to go.
The beach is clean and pretty. 
The owner is very attentitive and always available to answer questions or organize trips, transport etc.
The home cooked food is from fresh ingredients and delicious.
Each room is furnished and designed slightly differently and there are only 7 rooms, adding to the personalized atmosphere away from mass tourism.  
Prices are higher than at other places in Sri Lanka which is justified by the high quality of the property and service.  I would definitely come back.

Absolutely lovely place

If you are travelling in Sri Lanka and feel the need of a sanctuary to relax and recharge your batteries, look no further than this hotel. The approach road does not prepare you for what awaits inside. Don't be put off by the narrow road and track and the big black gate that faces you on arrival. Once opened, the gate reveals an oasis of calm which is beautiful and secluded. The staff are friendly and cannot do enough for you, whilst totally respecting your privacy if you need it. The food is good and delightfully presented.

The garden area which extends to the beach, offers numerous areas to sit or lie with good views of the sea and beach but is kept private with a fence. Access to the beach and sea for swimming is easy and the small beach was quite during our time there.

The rooms are uncluttered and deliberately devoid of distractions like televisions which were not missed by us at all. We had a room with an outdoor bathroom which felt luxurious. Everything about the hotel was tasteful and artistic and during our stay, we felt supported and completely rested.

I hope to have the opportunity to visit again sometime.

I had the misfortune to book the Coco Villa Boutique in Beruwala, for four nights 16.01-20.01.19
If possible, I would like to give it a minus rating but do not believe I can. It is a hotel that could be so much more. Please read the negative as well the positive reviews that are listed before booking this establishment.
Although the four pictures on the booking site were technically accurate they were deceiving and did not show the full room, just specific details.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the manager/owner in a singlet with holes in it and a Doberman aggressively pushing its nose into are crutches. We were then shown to are DELUXE SUITE, the first thing I noticed was the dirt on the light bulb and cable and condition of dirty ceiling. 
The manager then opened the door and we was greeted by a swarm of Mosquitoes, the manager then mentioned that there is a mosquito net around the bed.
Furniture was very basic consisted of the bed as advertised an old IKEA style bookcase as a wardrobe. Small table chairs and sofa.
We were then showed the bath room and was advised to keep the door closed at all times because of the mosquitoes (which would have been difficult because the lock was nearly falling off). The picture of shower was accurate, but the room did not include the bath tub as advertised, the walls were un-rendered, just the original building blocks and cement. There were large openings between the walls and ceiling. The ceiling was filthy and honestly if you had to use the bathroom in the evening it was a mosquito death trap. 
The sea view was technically correct, if you jumped. The terrace consisted of two sunbeds one mattress was past it sale-by date, but to sit there and enjoy a pleasant evening in your Deluxe suite and terrace with sea view was impossible as there was no chairs and table.
It was advertised as 130m2 but at a pinch I do not believe it was more 80m2.
After a discussion with the manager we were offered (which I believe was) the bridal suite for the night and a transfer to another room in the morning, the bridal suite was of a very basic design which at a push could have been OK but the bathroom which although large did not have a roof, which meant a mosquito death trap. As I mentioned to my wife, if I had taken her there on our honeymoon it would have been an instant divorce.
The manager knew we had to pay whatever the outcome of the discussion, because of my agreement with booking.com so he was not really interested. We then asked for the bill and I HAD to pay for the four nights, paid, asked for a taxi and left, after being in the property for two hours. Transferred to the Eden Spa Hotel, paid walk in price just so we could continue to enjoy are holiday in Sri Lanka

Tucked away fro the road, Cocovilla backs straight on to a beach. We had the honeymoon suite, with the biggest bed we have ever seen! Lovely outdoor bathroom too.The cashew curry was great, and the staff very helpful and smiley. It was a perfect place to relax. We also took tuk-tuk trips to nearby Bentota beach. Would love to go back.
