Beautiful simple place in a peaceful village. The staff are so kind and welcoming and really go out of their way to make it a special stay. The food is delicious and the chef is a really sweet guy. The driver is so friendly and helpful. The owners are a lovely couple who speak brilliant English. If you want somewhere away from the touristy party scene of Arugam Bay, with fast WiFi and a tranquil atmosphere on a clean beach, then this is the place.

Kind staff and beautiful beach

Booked the cabana room before leaving from ella, only to arrive and be told it wasnt available because the 'website we used made an error' I feel as though that may not have been the truth though. The only option they gave us was to pay extra for an A/C room even though the fault was not ours. The man we dealt with didn't apologize for the inconvenience and was not willing to negotiate. 
I think this turned out to be a blessing in disguise anyway as the place did not look like the photos and was not in the best location anyway.

Dont bother

Booked cabana room without A/C, arrived at the place (a fair way out of town) only to be told that room is not available however there is an A/C room available but we must pay extra for. We argued we should not have to pay extra for a mistake which was made on their behalf. They refused to give us the room at no extra cost. We then had to book somewhere else at short notice for a much higher cost. 
The man then ordered a tuk tuk for us that took over 20 minutes to arrive while we sat in the heat. I would not recommend, it was a total inconvenience.

We was there shim beach hotel it's so beautiful and very quiet place nice beach peace full people it's like paradise i really enjoyed that place mainly recommend the people enjoy your holiday with shim beach resort thanks guys

Nice and attractive place

We had booked this "resort" for three nights based on some reviews and a description, but we left after 15 minutes. The place only had three rooms. It was not a resort, but an isolaties three room accommodatie. The two cabanas were under reconstruction. The restaurant is a few tables under a roof, but no real menu or cook. The location was very remote in a lowerclass residential area far removed from town. It charged 35 US$ excl taxes per room, which is completely overpriced. The rooms die have airco and free WiFi. Arugam Bay has many nice accommodations, but this is not one. AVOID.

Very poor "resort" which is completely remote of town.

Maybe the price of stay at this place was much lower when the two previous reviewers stayed here, but this accomodation is vastly overpriced and we would recommend avoiding.

This "resort" comprises 3 rooms with fan and AC and private bathrooms without hot water. There are no other facilities really. There is a staff member (who is extremely friendly and a great guy) who is willing to make some food if you wish, but there are no provisions/food stored on site, despite the owner insisting that this is an onsite restaurant.
We asked for food one evening (and said we'd eat anything - whatever was most convenient)... The staff member had to leave the "resort" on a bicycle to get eggs, bread and jam. We were charged 450 rupees x2 for this, when on the main beach road in Arugam (which I'd expect to be more expensive), you can get an omelette and bread for more like 200. We chose to eat at restaurants in Arugam Bay instead the rest of the time.

It's a short trip to Arugam Bay main road, but probably 30 mins on foot which is a bit unbearable in 30 degrees so really requires a tuk-tuk in order to get back and forward a couple of times per day (200-300 per trip).

The room was clean and had its own bathroom but there was no hot water. This didn't bother us as we don't mind cold showers but something to consider if you do!

Aside from the 3 rooms, the rest of the plot is currently a construction site and may be a great place to stay in a couple of years, when the trees have grown and the building materials have gone!
