I stayed two nights in the dorm with my friends. Everything is clean, no wifi in the room but it works well in the other areas so that's fine. We had breakfast and dinner there twice, which was lovely (and cheap)! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We did the tour to Mihintale and really appreciated it. Also I forgot my camera's battery and charger when I left the city and the owner really did everything he could so I could get it back before I left the country. Thanks a lot for this! I definitely recommend this place!

Nice place, nice people

On first sight seems ok , it was clean . I paid for A/C but then once everyone is asleep they turn off A/C and everyone wakes up in a pool of sweat . The mosquitoes then return .. Smallest can of Lion beer 300 Rs large 500 rs , I complained , they returned 200 rs for A/c going off but then did it again 2nd night .. Mean and greedy management !!. There are far better places in town

Mean and a Con

I stayed in the 10 person dorm and after one night I had to leave because of the amount of mosquitoes in the room. There is no netting over ventilation shafts or the window in the bathroom so mosquitoes just fly in. This would be okay if there were mosquito nets but none are provided. These were provided at every other hotel and hostel that I stayed at in Sri Lanka. The windows in the dorm didnt open so it was very hot in the room.

Furthermore unused beds were left uncleaned and the bathroom was pretty dirty. The bike that I rented for 500 rupees also broke and A tuk tuk driver had to help me fix it so I could cycle back.

Stay in the dorm only if you want to be eaten by mosquitoes

The staff in this hostel is very welcoming but we were a bit disappointed when they only tried to sell us their tour to Mihintale instead of answering our questions about the buses. Still, the manager helped us plan our visit of the ruins, that was very nice. The dorms are all right, but the bathroom was not very clean ; the day we arrived it had not been cleaned at all. We rented bikes there to visit the ruins, they were quite good (500R p.p.).

'City Resort' on google maps NOT city capital hostel (this will take you to the back entrance). 

We took 2 beds in the female dorm and were very happy with it, there are six beds in total (not bunkbeds but real, comfy beds) with a strong ceiling fan and a standalone fan as well. The room was clean as was the bathroom (although our european roommate left her hair all over the floor). We didnt book through any portal online so got a cheaper rate- would recommend calling the owner beforehand. 

We had rented a scooter the day before and the owner offered us another scooter for cheaper (that we didnt take cuz we were leaving). Staff were really friendly, owner too was friendly but got a bit annoying for us as he kept suggesting what to do and how to do it (which i know is a good thing for a lot of travellers). Id recommend it and stay there again!
