I made a last minute reservation through Booking but after a while they cancelled the reservation due to "a problem with the card". Well  as I was near the hostel I went there to see I if it was possible to book directly from there.
The reservation staff was sooo bad, the woman there said us "Only Español, estamos en España (Only Spanish, we are in Spain)"  and she didn't want to head anything else.
How is it possible that there are people like that working in a hostel in the center of Madrid? A place face to face with customers, in a very tourist city.

IF YOU DON'T SPEAK SPANISH DON'T RESERVE HERE

As many hotels in Madrid is an old building. The location is great! Right to the "puerta del sol" the room is clean and confortable with a private bathroom, closet, tv and 2 window/balcony facing the puerta del sol, we can see and here all the action going on outside the puerta del sol which we love, if you can't sleep with noise, request a room that doesn't face this way, but we don't mind. 
The room is all we need to slip, get clean and get going, is hat to stay indoors in Madrid, the city has too much to offer. 
The staff is very friendly and we felt very safe walking in and out early in the morning and late at night. 
They don't include breakfast but there is plenty of places around to eat. 

Great location!

A hidden hidden jewel steps away from Plaza de la Puerta del Sol in the center of Madrid. It is very close to Sol metro station, pubs, restaurants, and Apple store. The staff is friendly but felt bad since I was coming late in the early morning from the pubs and you need to be buzzed to get in. You always leave your room key before you leave. If you are an early bird, bring some ear plugs. Otherwise, you could hear the street noise and the music from the Plaza de la Puerta del Sol street performers.

Situated in the city center and next to an underground station. Good staff and clean rooms. There was some noise, as this part of the city has a trepidant nightlifr, aside for that it was great, also cheaper than other hotels in the same area

Great hotel

During my stay in Madrid I wanted to be close to Playa Mayor, to a main metro line and close to the Retiro park. After reading several reviews Hostal Ana Bellenit sounded like the ideal place, several reviews stated that the hotel was close to the bars and restaurants in the area of Sol and amazingly quite especially as it was so close to the main road. 

When we arrived after walking past the hostel a couple of times we took the lift up to the 4th floor to be greeted by a man who hardly spoke English then a lady came out to greet us again not speaking much English (not a problem for me and my friend). We were shown our room and left to our devices. The room was pretty basic, 2 single beds, a flat screen tv and a small bathroom with a shower - just want we needed. 

After unpacking a bit we ventured out but as we approached the door from the hostel to the lift the lady appeared from along the corridor asking for the key, which we left. Again not a problem but perhaps some sort of leaflet could have been given to explain the rules etc. So off we went without a key which meant every time we went out we had to buzz back in and every time we went out the lady appeared to check we left the key and closed the door behind us. Don't get me wrong she was pleasant enough but it felt like you were being watched all the time and a little bit of a smile could have eased the over formality of it all. 

No hairdryer in the room though we got one on request. The pillows were very flat no duvets used just sheets and blankets. Small shachets of shower gel and shampoo in the room.

By the by the main issue for us was the noise in the evening. Sure enough the hotel was right next to / right on the street of about 6 bars and a further 5 more and restaurants just off this street. On the first of the 2 nights we were there we weren't bothered by the noise outside as we were so tired but the next night the cars, the horns, the music and the screaming and the shouting and what sounded like beer barrels being rolled down the street went on till past 2am if not longer ( or it felt like it)  we had  the wooden shutters closed, the windows closed and the roller blinds shut.... But the noise still penatrated into the room. This didn't sit well with us as the reasons for the trip was to run the Madrid marathon on the Sunday. 

None the less we got up to complete our marathon and the lady, still with no smile kindly allowed us to store our bags behind the small checkin desk in the main hall area. 

I guess they say you get what you pay and we may have been unfortunate especially as I had asked for quite rooms but by the night time it was obviously too late to do anything about the noise and ask to change rooms. It's a shame as my friend and I would have been quite happy with the room but feel quite disappointed and let down after I had Selected  the hotel after reading some good reviews something I shall take with less faith in for future bookings....
