This hostel offers a clean space with an excellent location (very close to the Paseo de Recoletos and the legendary Café Gijón), next to the theater Marquina and 3 minutes’ walk from the Plaza Chueca, Mercado Antón and plenty of good restaurants.
The lodging services are basic: simple beds with simple bedding. There is a safe box in the room but it costs one euro to use it (one euro is paid each time the box is opened), a small refrigerator and microwave. The rooms have private bathroom (a very small one), wifi, A/C and heating.
The reservation process and check-in process were easy and receptionist was helpful with my luggage, since I arrive prior to the check-in time.
In the overall: the best of this place is its location and owners' service.

The best of Hostal Prim: service and location.

This was a no frills budget hostel in the centre of Madrid, very close to the main art galleries and attractions. The place was clean and the staff welcoming. The room was small but had the added advantage of including an en suite toilet and shower. As a solo traveler on this occasion, I would certainly recommend it.

Good location budget hostel

Me and my mom enjoyed our stay, it is clean and comfortable place to stay. Near the plaza Cibeles and Plaza Mayor, loads of restaurants around to choose from, the staffs are accommodating and easy to talk with 😊

Holiday visit to Madrid

In spite of the budget price, the location is perfect: 10 minute walk from the airport express bus (Cibeles stop), easy access to Metro, walking distance to Sol, Plaza de Mayor, Chueca, and the Prado. Calle Prim itself is quiet, and there's a wonderful bakery café (Panod) a few doors from the hotel. Our room was college dorm-sized but very clean and well-maintained. The hotel itself was very quiet all 4 nights of our stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. The wifi worked fine.

Budget, Not Bidet

After a red-eye flight from NYC, the last thing we wanted was to be traipsing all over a foreign city trying to find our hotel. With the help of TripAdvisor members, we learned that Recoletos station is a stop on the train line directly from the airport. So I started my search for a hotel there. 

Hostal Prim is even closer to the station than it looks on a map. It was an easy walk, less than a block away, on a quiet street off of the main avenue. The block is quiet, with a secured government building right across the street. I felt very safe in the neighborhood. 

I had reservations about booking a "hostal". My experiences with them is that they were little more than dorm rooms, with shared bathrooms, bare bones furnishings and twin, lumpy beds. But as I had only booked a room for one night (to get our bearings in the city) I figured we could handle it. 

So I was pleasantly surprised to find that Hostal Prim occupies the entire floor of an old building, a flat that has been converted into separate rooms. We arrived hours before check-in so our room was not yet ready. However, upon seeing how exhausted we were, the front desk clerk offered us a "smaller room:, which we gratefully accepted. It was, indeed, small, as the queen (I think?) size bed took up most of the room and the bathroom only fit one person. But the bed was comfortable and we slept away most of the afternoon trying to alleviate our jet lag.

Some hostals we found require customers to leave their keys at the desk when they leave, then get rung back in when they return. Hostal Prim thankfully did not do this, as I would have found it annoying and the sound of the bell all night long would have been maddening.

The location could not have been better. We were on the border of Chueca, mere blocks away Gran Via and within a 20/30 minute walk of Centro/Sol and neighborhoods further south and west. 

We were so content with the accommodations that we considered extending our stay. The only reason we chose not to was because we really wanted a place with a kitchen so we could cook a few meals. 

The one caveat is that our room was the closest to the front desk/office, hence it wasn't the quietest room on the floor and we heard people talking and coming/going often. So if you choose to stay here (which I recommend) ask for a room further down the hall.
