super old classic hotel. simple yet not that superb. the hallway of the rooms looks packed with stuffs tat looked like construction site materials, safety boots laying around. there are topless shirt guys sitting at the hallway eating. not sure if they are hotel guest or workers. looks kind of rowdy surrounding to me. the room was big aircon's kinda of old and broken, aircon not cooling and like not even working at all. there is no television. lighting is bad . one switch off, the room goes dark.  bathroom is big but the walls decor can let me see thru to what's outside. Yes. i saw 1 lizard in the bathroom too. hotel frontdesk staff is friendly indeed. no free mineral water but u can purchase from the vending machine at a corner... 

nostalgia of a down quality hotel

i have been visiting the cameron hotel since nov 1973, i always got a warm welcome each time i stayed at the cameron, it is ok for my family, it is clean safe has aircon,yes the old type but is cold, it includes a lite brekkie, boiled egg, toast, chocolate cake, tea and coffee, very relaxed and comfey, and a 10 min walk to the mrt station, with plenty of cheap cafes, and clothes shopping and gold jewellery, you can trust the jewellers here, as the singapore govt is very strict, but you do have to haggle, to get a fair price.regards jim and bas turfrey, australia.

a very simple layback hotel,

I have never been so disgusted by a hotel . Ever. How do I even begin?!!
I thought I'd like to try a hotel stay around my house area for a change. 
I love all things colonial,vintage , retro. And so I thought wow this is like a great find. 
Checking in was all OK UNTIL I GOT INTO THE ROOM. 
The walls are disgusting with alot of black stains. The floor seems sticky i didnt dare walk around without my flipflops. At first glance the toilet seems upgraded but when look closely at the ground. It is sooo dirty! I saw 3 lizards in the toilet . There is a used plaster with blood on the sink. There are hairs on the bed. 
I just couldnt take in 3 mins let alone one whole nite! The aircon seems to be on its last breath. Everyting seems so dirty I had to go home and take a bath . I actually lost my appetite . There are actually many complaints on this hotel. Cleanliness matters. Really. 
I dont know how this hotel actually managed to stay in business. Outrageous.
I wish i didnt even have to give it one star!

Awful . Period.

I had tried to call n check room availability a few times and was informed that the cheaper room was available since I just needed a room alone to do work since my house nearby can be quite noisy due to mum majong session. However everytime I was informed that all cheaper rooms were taken up when I reached there n my house was just directly opp the hotel! Today I purposely called up when I was just standing outside the hotel to check vacancy. As usual, the man said got vacancy and the moment I approached him at counter he gave me the deluxe room (less than 10 seconds to walk in) and said the cheaper ones were all occupied and I didn't even see any single soul walked in! That's really cheating!Today, 10/2/14, my last n never ever there!

Unethical, unscrupulous & mercenary concierge staff!

Though the location is convenient (close to airport and freight centre where most of my work is), I would not recommend this place to anybody. The hotel is not maintained well, airconditioners hardly work but make a lot of noise, floor is dirty, bathroom door was broken, breakfast was an apology of a meal - hardly anything is even passable.

Moreover, As some other reviewer had commented earlier, quite a lot of hookers frequent ths joint. I think there are also other short time users here, who use this place for illegal / immoral rendevous.

I had booked myself for 4 days, but ran away from this place after the first day. I would strongly suggest that anybody wanting to stay at this hotel better stay at their own risk.

Shady place

I describe The Cameron Hotel to fellow road-weary travellers as Singapore's second Raffles.  

Redolent of the country's colonial past, it was once the spiffing digs of British Airforce Officers, only scrambling distance from their Spitfires at the nearby Changi airfield. 

At the Cameron they could relax from the rigours of winning wars with a gin of tonic under the slowly circulating ceiling fans, playing hands of cribbage and having their mustaches waxed.

A local legend even has it that one of them successfully shot Singapore's last surviving wild boar under the hotel's ping pong table late one night in 1958 having mistaken it for an Indian burglar. 

 Much has changed around the Cameron. The thriving suburb of Simei has shot up. Now, instead of Jap Zeros and Betty bombers, high-rise apartment blocks dominate the skyline. Speedy modern trains ferry the vibrant populace in minutes to the teeming city and beyond.  And multi-level shopping malls throb with bustling tropical commerce. 

 But the Cameron has remained unchanged. It's as if time itself has passed it by. Or, more likely, as though the Cameron does not want anything to do with the 21st century. 

Who needs it anyway? There's enough of that around.  

The staff at the Cameron Hotel are 20th century friendly. You know, the way people used to be? Welcoming and warm. Nothing is beyond their request. When my lovely wife Beryl wanted her ashtray emptied the staff were at our door in minutes with a fresh one. 

And the facilities? We'll, what do you want? A shower and toilet, a cupboard to put your clothes in, a bed ( with pillow and sheets)  and air conditioning to give you a comfortable night's sleep. Somewhere safe  to return at night to repair from a long hot day of sighting the sees. 

If I wanted to watch colour TV or Monopoly I'd have bloody well stayed at home. 

Breakfast is included in the hotel's modest tariff. And, to me, this was a highlight. I am something of a boiled-egg connoisseur, and the eggs at the Cameron are among the finest I have encountered anywhere is South East Asia. There is also Green Cake and toast and jam, as well as tea and coffee for those who don't wish to start the day with an alcoholic libation. 

The Cameron Hotel is perfectly located - just minutes by foot or rickshaw from bus and train and close to major tourist attractions. Stroll into Simei for a haircut or lunch at the excellent food stalls in the town centre. 

 The infamous Japanese POW camp at Changi - a place of torture, starvation, boredom and hardship for a lot of men in the 1940s  - is close by. And, for me, staying at the Cameron provided a unique opportunity. Most hotels only offer you a chance to visit history but  at the Cameron you get to live it first hand. 

Fellow time travellers I recommend this hotel highly.
