Sao Lourenco Village is a hidden gem at the heart of the beautiful Quinta do Lago estate on the Algarve coast of Portugal. Quinta do Lago is justifiably rated as the best resort in Europe.

It is encircled by the beautiful Sao Lourenco golf course with views across fairways and lakes. The village is perfectly presented and very well-managed. Inevitably it is busy and buzzy in the July and September high season and, at that time, suits families with children rather than young people and couples. From April to the end of June and during September and October, it is better suited for couples. 

It is a three minute drive or a twenty minute walk from beaches of clean white sand stretching for miles in either direction. There are a plenty of restaurants within walking or driving distance including a number with Michelin stars and those more suited to families with children.

If you are golfer there are four courses within easy reach on the Quinta do Lago estate in addition to Sao Lourenco golf course. These include the excellent south and north courses at Quinta do Lago golf club and Laranjal. Quinta's south course has hosted the Portuguese open on a several occasions.

Sao Lourenco has one benefit or drawback, depending on what you look for a holiday in the sun - it is nowhere near any night clubs. 

We would recommend you hire a car to get to the nearest shops and to get around the Quinta estate generally.

We have been holidaying in Sao Lourenco village and other parts of the Quinta do Lago estate for the last thirty years and it is an exceptional place to spend time and relax. We wake every morning and remind each other that we about to spend another day in paradise. And by the way, the weather is glorious!

In the heart of beautiful Quinta do Lago

We rented an apartment here in January/February 2015. The apartments are beautifully equipped and furnished and the surrounding gardens are meticulously maintained by a band of gardeners. Sao Lourenco Village is situated around a beautiful golf course with stunning views and lakes, perfect for bird watching, in the Ria Formosa, a protected area of natural lagoons and islands. The area is perfect for walking and the sandy beach is a ten-minute walk from the village and has many lovely beach bars and restaurants. Sao Lourenco Village is a 30-minute drive from Faro Airport (but we were not disturbed by any aircraft noise) and is about 15 minutes drive from Almancil town where you will find a selection of supermarkets and other shops. We are spending 3 weeks there in November and another 10 weeks next January-March 2016. 

Idyllic setting in the Algarve

Have recently returned from an 8 night stay at the Sao Laurenco village in Quinta do Lago arranged through Sun Hat holidays.

The development is consists of small blocks of apartments (rather like UK maisonettes) arranged in a 'U' shape right in the middle of the SL golf course. The accommodation ranges from studios to 3 beds. Our apartment was very spacious, very well furnished and equipped and had great views over the golf course and lake and Ria Formosa.

There are 2 swimming pools within the adjacent communal areas, all kept immaculately and in September, very quiet.

The location is excellent. The beach and nature trail are a short walk across the golf course and not much further by road. There are nearby eating places at Casa do Lago and The Shack and the rest of Quinta and VDL is not far.

We've been to Quinta do Lago a few times, last year staying at the Monte do Quinta Club. I much preferred Sao Lourenco. Although there was no private pool here, the setting is so much nicer with the great views and watching the golfers at the 9th hole, just below our terrace.

No downsides really, but be aware that although Faro airport is quite a long drive away by road, the end of the runway is very close to the south part of QDL and there are planes taking off very frequently. You can almost wave to the passengers at the nearby beach.

Lovely development on the golf course

Modern, clean and easy to live in. Balcony is snug, but enough for two people to sit comfortably on sun loungers.

A good choice for a family with one child - probably a bit small for larger families.

Management company for the apartment is very efficient and responsive to queries relating to noise issues from nearby apartments and maid service.
