The owners were really friendly, if not a little pushy on selling tours and it is based right next to the dune buggies so be prepared to be woken mid morning by V8 engines revving up the dunes. Not the hostels fault just a location thing. However the room was clean and fairly spacious we had a private bathroom and it was close enough to everything while at the same time being far away from the 'club' to avoid being kept awake at night by people partying. Would recommend for sure!

Cheap and clean, a little noisy in the morning.

From the moment I booked a room at Mr Llama, the representative was pushing to sell tours—dune buggy, flights over the Nazca lines, and Pisco wineries. My friend and I arrived Friday evening around 7 p.m. and had to leave by noon on Sunday. I made a reservation for the dune buggy tour at 4 or 4:30 so we could see the sunset over the dunes. Before we arrived, I emailed the owner and asked if he thought I could also fit in a trip to Nazca before the dune tour and he assured me this was possible. When we arrived, I asked the “receptionist” how to book the tour to Nazca. She said to show up at the “front desk” at 7 a.m. I did this, but no one could be found until 8 a.m. I had no idea that the trip to Nazca involved a 3-hour bus ride each way. You would think this is important information to give if you are selling a $100 tour to someone. The woman went with me to the bus station in Inca and paid $11 soles (e.g. $4) for a bus ticket for me and then gave me a few coins wrapped up in toilet paper and put in a bag and told me to give it to Ms Ruth when I got off the bus (???). That is the total extent of the information I had when I left Ica. After 3 hours on the bus, I realized that there was no way I could get back to Huacachina by 4 p.m. unless I went straight to the airport and got on a flight immediately. I was greeted by a man when I got off the bus and he drove me and a British couple to some hostel and then proceeded to try to sell us on several other tour packages. I let him know that I wanted to get back to Huacachina by 4 and he was astounded, so he put me in a taxi with another man who tried to sell me on even more tours in Nazca. I got to the airport and was handed over to yet another man who asked me for my flight ticket, which of course was never given to me. Nor did I receive any kind of paper that showed what I paid for—all I had was my Visa receipt (plus no bus ticket back). This 4th person then said I would have to wait an hour to get on a flight to see the Nazca lines. I was about to cry. I contacted the owner of Mr Llama (Walford) and he was very apologetic, but then I proceeded to wait TWO hours to get on a 35 minute flight. Walford arranged to get me a collective taxi so I could get back to Huacachina sooner in order to do the dune tour. But this experience involved being handed off to two more men who I had never met or heard of. I am a 56-year-old blonde woman, so I basically had to just trust in God that I would arrive somewhere safe at some point. I got into the taxi with 4 other men and it took 2 hours to get back to Ica. Walford met me in Ica and drove me to Mr Llama, but at this point it was 5:30 p.m. and the sun goes down at 6 p.m. But, he took me in front of all the other people waiting to get their dune buggies up the hill and I was able to at least experience a portion of the dune tour. In the end, I was able to “do it all,” but felt like I was completely in the dark the entire day. More communication is needed for non-Spanish speakers. Plus it really is NOT possible to go to Nazca and back to Huacachina (in order to enjoy the dunes) unless you leave at 6 a.m. in a car (not a bus). . . . And while it is not exactly relevant to Mr Llama, from the second we got off the bus from Lima, people were trying to sell sell sell us on tours. Be prepared to be bombarded when you go!

Hostel OK, tours are not!

Rooms are very basic. Cold room, window would not close and no bin in the room. Very poor toilet and shower facilities - dirty, no toilet seat, shower curtains, soap or mirror. Paid less for better in the same location. Good location though and helpful staff.
