This place is like a cozy home in the middle of stunning nature. It's really quiet but has a strategical location, close to all the cool stuff to do outside. They've got kayaks you can use, a sauna to relax in, and the restaurant is just incredible with epic views. Plus, the host, Christian is really passionated about making you feel at home. Definitely the perfect spot for a great time in Lofoten!

Incredible stay in Lofoten

What can I say? Hattvika Lodge is just amazing. We had the perfect welcome from Maria who immediately made us feel at home. The staff at breakfast were all lovely and genuine, as were the waiting staff at dinner. The food at breakfast and dinner were simply out of this World and you can tell they go out of their way to use fresh and local produce. Then there’s the Hillside cabin we stayed in. Wow! It was just beautiful! The location and the scenery is stunning.

Thank you so much to all the staff at Hattvika Lodge for making our stay so memorable. It was a magical few days and the aurora even put on a display for us on the first night! 

We had travelled all the way to Narvik from England by train then hired a car to reach Ballstad, we were very kindly offered to use the washing machine at no extra cost which was enormously appreciated. 

I really cannot recommend this place enough. If you are looking for somewhere to stay on the impossibly beautiful Lofoten Islands, then look no further. I cannot fault Hattvika Lodge at all. Perfection!

Perfection!

Lofoten is one of those destinations that I happily come back to and explore to the fullest - and this time I had a pleasure of doing so while staying at Hattvika Lodge. The accommodation is located in a picturesque fishing village of  Ballstad, close enough to all the "must see, must visit, must hike" spots, but at the same time - a great place if you want some peace and quiet.     We were greeted with warmth and hospitality, and were taken care of fully during our stay. From tips on where to go, or what to do around the area and Lofoten in general, to guided kayak adventure, sauna (and cold plunges ;) ) to unforgettable dinner at "Fangst" - everything is so well thought through!  
Thank you for this amazing stay - we can't wait to come back!

A wonderful stay!

Hattvika Lodge felt like a home away from home from the first to the last moment. 
For me, as a longterm traveler and digital nomad this is a very rare feeling, which makes it even more special. 
A few things of "why"...
- The location is an absolute dream. Peaceful, at the harbor side and super secluded but accessible.
- The accomodation has a lot of light, is spacious and well maintained. It feels like a litte family home and is, on top of all that, a traditional rorbu house that is an important part of Lofoten heritage. 
- The team, lead by Kristian, is exceptionally kind and caring. They didn't only make us feel like they want us to have the best time but they did all in their means to really do so. Fro organizing kayak trips, to helping us plan the places to visit and much more... Very rare. 
- The restaurant is the best you can find in the entire Lofoten Islands. Try it if you want something truly special. I promise it'll be worth it.

A home away from home!

Had an incredible time staying at Hattvika lodge. The staff were super accommodating and made us feel welcome. Gave us recommendations for the area and was a great place to relax and unwind after exploring lofoten. Really enjoyed the sauna and the buffet breakfast was really good as well. The lodge felt homely we had a kitchen to cook healthy meals in and a living room area as well as two rooms.

Incredible find

Completely captures the heart of the north with the friendliest staff and owner you can imagine.  Very welcoming atmosphere, modern cabins and great food. No matter the weather, staff always provided ideas and options what to do and where to go. Also the location is perfect and you’re very quickly at Lofoten’s hotspots.

My partner and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Hattvika. It is the perfect mix of comfort and adventure. The amenities were top notch. We stayed on the hillside cabin, which was brand new and decked out with everything you need. The bed was fantastic. We had the best nights of sleep while staying at Hattvika. Kristian and Guri are incredible lodge owners. They gave us perfect recommendations for hikes and local spots to check out. We went kayaking with Kristian. He was a great guide. All of the employees were helpful and lovely. A big shout out to Roland for his helpful suggestions and Cecilia for her hospitality and fantastic drinks! Definitely stop by the restaurant and ask her to make you a drink; you won’t be disappointed. Needless to say, we loved it and are already planning our return to Hattvika.

Wonderful Location and Experience

Our night was perfect in this place, we were able to see the northern lights right inside our cabin. The host was super super nice to us and the cabins are beautiful and cozy. I fully recommend this place

Beautiful place!

We had a lovely stay in Hattvika Lodge. From the moment we arrived, Kristen was there to greet us and helped us with our luggages, the check-in was seamless. We booked the hilltop room and it was uniquely designed, modern, and overlooking the rorbuers, mountains and water. The bed was very comfortable. We did a hike which is 5 mins drive away and it was an awesome hike. Mark and Ola were very friendly and helpful too and we had a great chat with them in the restaurant. First class hospitality and you really feel like home abroad. Definitely recommend to include your Lofoten stay here 🙂

Highly Recommended Stay

Loved Hattvika Lodge in the fishing town of Ballstad! A lodge built right on the water and reclaimed from a working fishing port staying at Hattvika made you feel a part of the very old history of the village. Kayaks and a sauna on the pier added to the fun. We stayed in a lovely reclaimed fisherman’s cabin with lots of room and a view of the harbour and its fabulously pink sunsets (and the Northern Lights!). While there are other villages and fishing cabins to stay in throughout Lofoten,  Hattvika was authentically a part of  the community and Norwegian life in Ballstad. It was more than just a tourist/Instagram stop.

Access to hiking and the outdoors was made easy through the graciousness of our host Christian.  Hiking and beach trips and a visit to  Anita’s  for a fabulous fish sandwich topped off a lovely day in Lofoten.

Of course - you can’t forget the food! The restaurant and service were wonderful with attention to local specialities - including cod liver oil! Seriously though- the food was wonderful and lovingly prepared and served.

I also appreciated Hattvika’s support of local community with goods from the area it sold including a lovely Lofoten wool hat made from a nearby farm and its 100 sheep - each with its own name!

I would highly recommend Hattvika for an authentic Norwegian fishing village experience!
