Both my daughters loved the swimming pool and play area. Ray, the owner was friendly and helpful and let us check in early. Room was comfy and clean and easy parking. The restaurant over the road was great for dinner and breakfast (Salt and Wood).

My husband and five year old daughter had a great time here this weekend. The weather was pretty bad, but that didn't spoil our stay.

Our daughter braved the nice family pool, but the weather wasn't nice enough for us.

This motel is perfectly located with a supermarket and nice restaurant within easy walking distance.

The grounds are well kept and there is a kids playground, family pool plus toddler pool as well as picnic tables, bbq and plenty of chairs to relax in. Would be nice to use when the weather is good.

The rooms are dated, but has everything you need, are spacious and clean. Perfect for a family holiday.

Fabulous motel. Lovely clean facilities and very well equipped kitchen. Superb TV. Bedding was lovely. Bed extremely comfortable and we had a superb night's sleep. The owners were very friendly and it was just across the road from a superb restaurant and bar. 

A great clean, spacious, quiet motel that is really good value for money. Highly recommended.

It's an older motel but with that you get a solidly built structure (and therefore helps it to be nice and quiet) that is warm and has really good sized rooms, kitchen and bathroom. The rooms are provisioned with everything you need. Super friendly and helpful hosts.



We (three Whakatane senior trampers)  stayed at the Ariki for the nights before and after a few nights in the Tararua bush country.  We appreciated the friendly reception and always prompt service by Ray, and loved the well appointed unit including fresh coffee, the washing and drying facilities on site, as well as the ample parking space.   Ray let us park our car on site while we were away tramping.   The motel is very close to the centre of town with a brewery / pub just across the road.   The room was spotlessly clean.

Love this motel - warm welcome and easy access parking which isn’t something we have found on our jaunt around NZ in the Chev.  Beautifully clean, older style unit but immaculate -  unlike our tired, shabby rooms at the Brentwood in Kilbirnie last night which were similar vintage but no comparison.  A guest Laundry, pegs and clothesline in the sunshine.   We were tempted by the inviting pool but this is still Wellington and not quite Summertime yet.  The grounds and gardens are very nice and the tuis are flitting about.  It has been interesting to stay at many smaller places this trip and experience such great hospitality and apart from our Brentwood experience we have discovered some true kiwi gems well worth coming back to.

Ariki Lodge is close to the train and bus routes and less than a 2 minute walk to restaurants and supermarkets. My room was clean and tidy,water pressure was good, and the surroundings were really pretty. Thanks for the hospitality, team!

Nice friendly people running this motel.    We had a unit with a queen bed and a single for our daughter.  Lovely comfy room with good kitchen facilities and tv for rugby :).  Very close proximity to food and supermarkets for dinner and breakfast.  Had a good quiet nights sleep before heading back on the road.  Would have been happy if it was longer but not this time.  Would definately come again.  Thanks guys.

Very very spacious apartment which was lovely. We stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment. Basic accomodation but super clean and had everything we needed.  Very comfortable beds.  Nice full kitchen.  Fast and easy checkin and checkout.  Trampoline for the kids and lovely garden.  Super helpful owner.  Fantastic location, quiet, and 2-5 minute walk to train station into Wellington, restaurants, grocery store. Great base to explore Kāpiti coast and take trips into Wellington. We will definitely come back! 

This motel doesn't look special from the road, but inside the drive, you can see that it's very well-appointed and neatly laid out.
The warm greeting from Ray set up our brief stay nicely and the room he gave us seemed modern. 
It had everything anyone would ever want: very clean, a kitchen area, lovely & comfortable bed, good bathroom, Sky TV. Wide parking directly outside the room was an added bonus.

The shops (those that were open) were only a few minutes walk away, as was the railway station, so everything was handy.  The drive to Wellington from here took us 65 minutes, but I realise that time would vary according to traffic and time of day.
We would have no hesitation in returning here on an future occasion and could be happy using it as a base for a greater Wellington visit.
