Fantastic
3670 reviewsIt’s not easy to find nice hotels that accommodate large families when we travel, particularly ones for 6 children. A lot of the nicer and higher end hotels that we prefer staying in have a no child policy or limit occupancy to 2-3 guests which doesn’t work for us. I lucked out and found 2 connecting executive suites for our stay at the Toren and it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The hotel is in historic portion of Amsterdam and every direction leads to another iconic and instagram worthy photo of the historic canals and Dutch buildings. I highly recommend Cafe Sonneveld which is less than 10 mins walk from the hotel and serves some delicious local and European fare. Service is fantastic as well and very family friendly. The executive suites were large, very clean, and well appointed. Best yet, we had our own little “courtyard” and sitting area in front of our suites. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. I say most because there was one particular gentleman (whom I won’t name) who worked the morning/day shift that either hates children or Asians Im not sure which. But despite me smiling and saying hello or thank you during every encounter, I received a cold response back and never a “you’re welcome” or anything similar. I found it very odd especially given the service and warmth of the majority of the other staff members. I’ve said it many times before but if you don’t like people or talking to people, then working the front desk at a hotel is probably the wrong profession for you. That issue aside, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at The Toren and highly recommend it to families visiting Amsterdam. Cheers and happy traveling.
