Good sized self-contained rooms with all the essentials.  Housekeeping of a high standard—rooms very well cleaned daily. Meals were well cooked, fresh and varied.  They might consider a more healthy breakfast menu—it was first time I'd been served chips for breakfast, every day! The dining room is a bit small for our group of 19 but there is a big lounge.  Wi-Fi only works in main building. Laundry facilities available.  All the staff were very helpful and friendly—top marks to Monica who served us graciously throughout.  The  lodge would be categorised as 'budget' but it has all the facilities you need.  Thoroughly recommended.

Comfortable and Caring

We were a group of 16 choir members and took up most of the rooms. We negotiated a room rate of just over 20 USD per person for bed and breakfast so we had some trepidation about what sort of rooms to expect. The rooms were indeed basic but pretty comfortable with TV but only a shower - no bathtubs. The water temperature tended to vary depending on how many people were taking a shower at the same time but it was mostly  manageable. I wasn't used to single ply toilet paper but it just needed to be folded over. The food was simple but delicious. Breakfast was exactly the same every day: a sausage, two eggs, toast, cornflakes and fries with tea or coffee. At USD 20 frankly this seemed a bargain. The entire party was catered for by one patient and unflappable lady called Monica who kept fetching tea, coffee, sodas and water and processing requests for laundry, WiFi, etc. The WiFi was semi-reliable and didn't reach most rooms so we browsed in the small lounge. Superb value for the money we paid. I'd gladly return and pay a bit more if I had to.

Safe accommodation, situated close to town. The owner and staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Clean rooms and good breakfast. Would definitely recommend Cakes lodge to anyone looking for affordable and good accommodation in Lilongwe!

A nice place to stay in Lilongwe

The staff and owner were very friendly, and we had no problems with checkin, checkout, or our rooms.

The breakfast is pretty standard for Malawi and nothing special, but for the price of the rooms it is a good deal.

There were a few issues with the premises however. There was a power outage in the night, that lasted about 30 mins, but wasn't that big of a problem.

The wifi which is advertised does not reach all the rooms, and the daytime wifi when we arrived did not work. 

Overall however, a good experience for the price paid.

A Nice Place with a few issues

Wonderful staff and safe accommodations. Willing to negotiate prices for monthly stays.  We could hire a car to go to rhe Lake or linger distances. Great location and nice breakfast. We will stay again next year

Wonderful for short or long stays

Just an hour from the airport we spended the night here! The room I got was big and clean, whit bathtub, shower and a big bed. The breakfast was ok with toast, omelett and coffe:) Free wi-fi was nice after a week in the bush!
