The hotel is very well located for traquility , calm and nice beach view. They got a very good swimming pool.I spent 3 nights at this hotel and would recommend to everybody as price is very reasonable for such a lovely hotel.

Best in Tamatave

Pros:
-Really nice, helpful and friendly staff, always smiling and ready to help.
-WIFI was good. 
-AC was working superbly.
-Pool was nice and clean, and the lighting effects at night made it beautiful too.
-Room was great, spacious and clean.
-Shower was nice.

Cons:
-No dustbin in room, instead one small dustbin in bathroom.
-Few sockets in room
-Slow service for lunch and dinner, but the food was always fresh.
-No sea view from our room. It was blocked by all tress(please do not cut off the trees, instead change this 'sea view' description in the room description and tell people the reality).
-Pool was being used by guests from outside the hotel on payment basis, so it got too crowded at times.
-Beach is not a beach! The water was dirty and waves were very strong. For beach experience, we went to Foulpoint for a daytrip. Beach, although crowded, was much better in Foulpoint.
-They charge for extra coffee/tea sachets, these should have been complimentary.
-Breakfast was not buffet. They serve as you come. It was okay.
-Caged lemur!! I wanted to give the property 4/5, but I am giving 3/5 because of the the caged lemur.

Overall nice place to stay, but they need to release the lemur in it's original habitat; forest!

This was a day stop for us as part of a cruise itinerary. We just wanted a quiet day in a nice hotel on a good beach. We got a couple of Tuk Tuks from the port and although they said they knew the hotel after about 10 minutes, it was obvious that they didn’t. 
English is not widely spoken so the language barrier can be a problem. We’d been warned on the cruise that crime rate is high and to be extra vigilant so as we drove down unmade roads in the middle of nowhere I was starting to get worried but it was fine. 
We arrived at the hotel (which cost hardly anything as a day guest) - and it wasn’t actually on the beach. There were no sun loungers but they had tables and chairs around the pool. 
We ordered soft drinks and they were barely chilled. 
The pool was a good temperature but was a bit murky so we didn’t spend too long in there. The beach was a few minutes walk away but it was dirty and the sea was too rough to paddle or swim. 
We got a couple of bottles of water but these were for the very sad lemur who was in a small metal cage, in full sun without any bedding, food or water. He craves attention and cling to the bars to be stroked - he drank a full bottle of water and  took a couple of bananas, it was heartbreaking and so we left. 
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel - however I didn’t see any others that looked more appealing. 

Day Visit

We stayed here as part of a cycling trip and it was a nice change from some basic hotels elsewhere. Nice bathroom albeit if sharing with someone you don’t know be aware that the bathroom wall is made of glass and while there are blinds they don’t fully cover the glass. Aircon was good and free water in the rooms. Pool looked a bit murky and the poolside toilets had a missing roof (no real sign of it being repaired but maybe that is due soon). Big function room so perhaps used as a wedding location - bar area struggled with enough change but otherwise helpful staff. Wi-fi worked throughout the hotel. Huge downside was seeing a lonely lemur in a very small cage in the grounds. A relic of another era and something management should address I feel and for that I’ve deducted 2 stars from my otherwise 4 star rating

Clean and modern hotel near the beach shame about the lemur 

The Victoria Hotel is a well appointed hotel and welcomes travellers however there is a very big drawback particularly if you are visiting Madagascar to see lemurs in their natural habitat. Unfortunately the hotel clearly does not support lemur preservation or good animal husbandry. There is a single lemur kept in a cage with no trees or anything to keep it interested. I would not recommend this hotel as they clearly do not respect local wildlife.
