With some help of the lady at the tourist information, I found the hostel. The owner greeted me and was very helpful with advice. He said his English wasn't that good, but he still spoke English to me. It seemed that I was only one of 3 female guests, so sharing the bathroom wasn't a problem at all. The room was very small, but functional. I got free WIFI access for 200 Yen. Everything was clean and I got two fresh towels. There are washing machines to use (which I didn't need). 
There's a bus stop close by from where you can explore the island. Make sure you know the bus schedule (the owner of the hostel gave me a schedule in English). The bus drivers don't speak English, but when you enter the bus, you can tell them the place you want to go and they will tell you when to get off and even point you in the right direction, if you don't know where you should go. There's a ticket for 1, 2 or 4 full days which you can buy at the tourist information, so you can use the buses as often as you like during that period. 
The owner of the hostel was also very helpful when my credit card didn't work for me to draw cash (foreign credit cards are not accepted by most of the local bank ATMs). He gave me advice and even called his wife to find a solution for my problem. Thanks a lot to both of them for their efforts!
