Kumamoto is not a really easy place to visit without a car. The train station is a bit out of town - yes there is a tram, and it is very quaint, but very slow. This guesthouse is about 10-15min walk from station (and away from town). But the host is wonderfully friendly and takes special time to explain what is available around the guesthouse and in the city generally. It turns out there are a lot of little eating p[laces very close to the guesthouse - very friendly isakyas, noodle houses etc. The place has just 3 bedrooms and often with 8 guests - one bathroom and 2 toilets. But no real problems with this. Very quiet and comfortable
