Stayed here on business trip, having last stayed here in 1999!, the hotel has not changed since then from what I remember.

Room was clean if a little outdated.

There is swimming and hot springs here, but unfortunately I didn't have time to try which was a shame as it looked very nice. 

The staff are very considerate here. My only issue was only 1 restaurant was open when I was here and it closed by 10:00PM, so we were asked to leave and we would of liked another beer.

Iwata is not like the big cities so not sure what else would be available from a hotel perspective.

I would use again if in the area.

This review is only for the spa on the 2nd floor of the Grand Hotel in Iwata City.  I did not have a room reserved, but only visited to bathe in the spa.  The hotel is located at the top of a hill on National Route 1 and is very easy to find.  There is a very large parking lot, and although it was a weekend, parking was no problem.

A friendly, smiling manager greeted me at the door and showed the way to the elevator; the clerk at the spa counter was similarly friendly and cheerful.  For 1500 yen I was given a robe, a large towel and a small towel.  

The changing room is small, and has about a dozen lockers.  The lock was not very substantial, and valuables should be left at the front desk.  There is only one pool (heated to 41 degrees C), plus a cold water pool.  The natural mineral water comes from 1500 metres underground and has a pH of 8.6, and has a very dark red colour.  Put your hand into the water and it disappears after twenty centimetres.

The sauna is wedged into a corner of the room and is very small, seating perhaps five in intimate proximity; however I was all alone!  Perhaps the high admission kept the crowds away.  Temperature inside was only 87 Celcius, although I could remain inside for only 7 or 8 minutes.

The concrete floor was embedded with small stones to give a sort of 'acupuncture' treatment to the soles of the feet... I am aware that this is considered as beneficial to the health within the realm of Eastern medicine, but I found it actually painful to walk on (maybe I should lose some weight...Ha!)   

In summary, it was a refreshing visit but a little too expensive.  Cheaper alternative spas are located nearby and offer more for less.  The quality of the water was very good, but the limited variety of pools and lack of an outdoor 'rotenburo'  bath means that I would not be tempted to stay overnight.

Spa at Iwata Grand Hotel

I was biking past the hotel and decided to stop there for a night.
Hotel staff were very courteous and nice, they even allowed me to keep bike in the separate room designed for such things and they did not mind my dirty road clothing or sporty look although atmosphere was very cozy.
Hot springs under the hotel are simply excellent with water red as wine. Unfortunately only one or two baths, but it was quite enough to soak after biking the whole day.
I got incredibly spacious room with all necessities and a little bit retro but very pleasant interior. There was japanese garden out of the windows which made my stay even more pleasant.
Unfortunately did not enjoy the food because it was just too late to order it but I am very satisfied by this stay and would stay again for sure.

Liked it very much

I was at Iwata on a business trip to my parent comapany Yamaha (YMC). The hotel is located conveniently near to the offices (various) in Iwata. The rooms are small but very well furnished with all amenities. The food is good and most important, very frindly staff.
