34 reviewsA Japanese friend recommended Uminohana ryokan at Atami. The JR train ride from Tokyo (one transfer) was easy and we were picked up at the station on time. The ryokan is situated on a ridge. This was our first experience. The room has its own private in room onsen bath. We reserved two 45 minute sessions at each of the two roomier public baths all for ourselves. The larger one requires climbing up steep stairs but is more open with a view of the sea; very peaceful and calming. I felt cleansed and relaxed reclining and resting head on a rock, watching drifting clouds in the sky. The elaborate 10 course Kaiseki dinner was elaborate, delicate and elegantly presented. Sleeping on the futon bed was surprisingly comfortable after getting used to getting up from the floor. I slept like a baby with the soothing water sound in the background. The breakfast was very impressive. The bath products are high quality. Service was excellent throughout. We really enjoyed this great experience.
