Gero Onsen Kisoya

Oct 8 After Kyoto we toured Gifu Prefecture. It was a long trip to our next destination, Gero Onsen, a small village separated by a river flowing through its center. About a 8 min walk is Kisoya, an onsen hotel. It is very popular with groups, but not westerners. There is really nothing to see nearby. I walked across the street to a second floor bowling alley. A convenience store is next door and good for coffee. The onsen is hardly used. The water is a bit hotter than the other onsens so far. The included meals of breakfast and dinner are brought to the rooms. During dinner the female owner knocked on the door and greeted us. That was a nice gesture although she couldn't speak English. She wore a silk kimono. The Hida beef was generous and so delicious. I'd say it was the best beef on the trip. You sleep on the tatami mats using 3 layers of futon. I slept well. As we departed two staff members profusely waved us goodbye. This onsen hotel is underrated. I can recommend.
