We stayed here after fleeing an uncomfortable capsule hotel at the 5th station on Mt. Fuji after our Fuji climb. We arrived in Kawaguchiko after 4pm with no reservations, and the travel concierge at the train station suggested Minshuku Fugakuso. The owner picked us up at the station (and dropped us there in time for our bus the next morning), and drove us out to his lovely, traditional guesthouse. The weather meant no views of the mountain for us from the house, but our room was clean, with comfortable futons we rolled out ourselves. Both the shared bath and the shared bathrooms were very clean, too. We had access to a kitchen / fridge, which would be handy for longer stays. The owner suggested a few places nearby to eat, recommending a bento place across the street and saying we could bring it back to our room, which is what we did. He also offered us discount coupons for a nearby onsen, but we didn't have much time, unfortunately. We enjoyed wandering around the neighborhood and were really happy to have found ourselves there -- and wishing we had more time to spend there before moving on!

Lovely traditional guesthouse

We stayed here on the night of the 4th of April. We were the only guests!

The inn itself was in a decent setting. The views we had from our room weren't amazing but they were OK! The front garden was lovely.

The room was a decent size and pretty much what I expected of a ryokan, which was nice. It was comfortable and there was a good heater provided so it was warm enough.

The toilets are mostly (3 out of 4) 'squatters', which as a man I didn't find too much of an issue but women might obviously have a harder time.

The main issue I had was the security of the rooms and building. There is no lock either on the building itself or any of the rooms. There is a small latch that keeps the door closed but this is only in the inside of the room so you can't put it on when you leave. It made me glad we were the only guests!

The owner is very nice and friendly and he gave us a lift to the train station in the morning. He was one of the best features of the foam! 

Lovely setting

we stayed at this quaint homestay for a night for a mountain view at fujikawaguchiko. The owner, an elderly gentleman fetched us at the train station. He was very friendly and helpful despite the language barrier. We stayed in a room upstairs. There are lavatories and small kitchen provided on the floor but bathroom is only available downstairs and it is closed by 10pm. The bus stop was nearby to get to the lake. The shop across the road sells delicious bentos and we can't get enough of its salmon bento. we loved the place and definitely will return in future :)

Clean basic tatami rooms. The owner Hiroshi-san picked us up from the station and brought us to the busses bound for the mountain. Very helpfull and hospital. This is a traditional homestay ryokan, with a fridge in the common area. Hiroshi lives in the house also. We would recommend this guesthouse when climbing mt Fuji

Great place in traditional setting

Booked one night here in July before our Mount Fuji hike, and really enjoyed it. As traditional as it gets, essentially! There's plenty of spots to eat and bathe nearby (you get a discount ticket to local onsens, but we unfortunately had no time), and the hostel itself is very comfortable.

When our Fuji hike was set to begin, the owner drove us to the train station himself, which was really appreciated! Thanks for the hospitality :)

Quaint traditional Japanese hostel - we enjoyed our stay, and the owner is so friendly!

We stayed at Minshuku Fugakuso for three nights and we had a really great stay. The minshuku is a traditional Japanese building and the rooms are all Japanese style. It's clean and nice. Our room had a view of Mount Fuji! The owner was extremely helpful, he gave us discount tickets for onsen and the cablecar, he helped us wash our clothes at the minshuku and he drove us back and fourth to the train station several times.
