We spent a couple of nights here with our guide Riko of Deeply Regional Japan. While an older style of hotel, it is well appointed with spectacular views, onsen bathing, tatami floors, wonderful food and staff. If you want to stay where locals stay, this is the place you want to be.

Autumn paradise

I booked this hotel as we needed somewhere to stay following the Hikosan hike and I liked the idea of staying away from the cities for a night.  The hotel itself is walkable from the Hikosan hike start/end and the same bus that transports you to the hike start from Hikosan station also stops right outside this hotel (Hotel Nagomi is Hikosan Hotel). 

I had read on here that no english was spoken at the hotel and had booked through Rakuten, so was a little apprehensive about whether they would be expecting us but all went well and enough english was spoken to perform check-in and to help with ordering drinks at dinner.  The dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious and were served in the dining room at a time selected at check-in.  We checked in at about 5 to allow for time to visit the onsen before dinner and I think the hotel ask you to be checked in by 6 at the latest.  

As far as I can tell all the rooms (Japanese and Western style) were located on the far side of the building and therefore benefited from fabulous views over the nearby scenery.  We had a Japanese style room which had an en suite toilet and bath room and futon set for you to put out for sleeping.  I would recommend trying a Japanese style room at least once in Japan for authenticity.

All in all - a fabulous stay - highly recommended!

Delightful small hotel close to good hiking area

We were here for the Hikosan hike. The hike didn't happen due mostly to bad weather. But the stay in this hotel sort of made up for it.

The tatami room was very very comfortable.

The dinner and breakfast were sumptious AND delicious. (It didn't look like there were any eateries nearby though)

The hotel also had an onsen (a big indoor one and a small semi outdoor one), which was very enjoyable.

The place had a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
