319 reviewsWe have just returned from a 10 day stay at Camping Tiber. And what a fantastic stay it was. Our holiday was booked via Pitch-up, very easy process, Camping Tiber were extremely helpful when I contacted them with queries before arrival. As we were originally going to move on after our first 4 nights, I initially booked a pre-erected tent for 4 people, with a kitchen and 2 bedrooms. After further research we decided to book a further 5 nights also in a pre-erected tent so had 2 separate bookings. We hired a car and drove from Milan, the campsite was very easy to find, although I would tell people to be vigilant about getting out of the site as the locals drive past the entrance way too fast! Check-in was very quick, receptionists were all very informative, particularly the lady with dark short hair (had a slight American twang to her accent and working in the afternoons), she was really helpful and friendly. We were given our tent and a map and found it very easily. The tents themselves are pitched in a small community like set-up, with approx. 15 all facing each other with a large space in the middle. The tents are large, were fully equipped with a stove, fridge, 2xtable and chairs, lights, a fridge with a freezer, broom, clothes dryer and a basic supply of kitchen utensils etc. The beds were reasonably comfortable and all tents had inner zipped rooms which kept the mosquitoes down. Talking of mosquitoes…..yes they are everywhere. The striped ones come out day and night and you are either lucky enough to not react to them or you are going to look like most other campers…..covered in red blotches! The campsite sprays insecticide twice monthly at 5am however even in the middle of Rome, we and many others were still getting bitten. When going to pay for our second booking we mentioned an issue we had with our pre-erected tent and the manager gave us a discount to upgrade to a caravan. We loved it. Our two bedroom caravan was in pretty good condition (number 44) and was equipped with nice, clean utensils and bed linen. My only frustration was that the shelves were removed from the oven and grill and no toaster was supplied. We made do, but I think holiday makers should be able to self-cater if that’s what they intended to do. Upgrading actually enhanced our holiday, but due to the mosquitoes, we couldn’t sit outside and eat (we did once and regretted it!). The shower blocks over the small bridge to the pre-erected tents were great. Actually all washing/cleaning facilities on this site are some of the best I have seen and over the years we have extensively camped in the South of France, Spain, Northern Italy and Holland. The site has a shop. Prices are slightly higher than outside the campsite however there is everything there you need. There is also a nice restaurant on site which seemed popular however we didn’t use this. For an idea of prices, a pizza (these are pretty big) and a beer was 7.90euros. The pool is open daily from 10am to 7pm. Great pool for kids as the deepest part was approx. 5ft6. Plenty of sunbeds. Much to our surprise, a massive watermelon was bought out most days and everyone enjoyed free fruit late afternoon. We did have to laugh at the amount of Italian women that came with children into the pool area before the watermelon was bought out, filled their bags, then left!! For campers, you have endless choices. I think only a quarter of the pitches were being rented – this is a great campsite, one we would have used if driving from the UK with our own tent. Pitches were huge and all level. The park is approx. 20 minutes’ walk from Prima Porta, there is plenty of free parking in the village if you are driving there to catch the tube into Rome. We were advised not to park outside the tube station, however we did on a couple of occasions and had no problems. Would we go back…..absolutely. Would we recommend…..absolutely. This park is a little gem on the outskirts of one of the most beautiful and romantic cities we have ever visited. Thank you Camping Tiber.
