O'Donovans is of local historic interest - Parnell and Collins stayed here, as did Marconi for his trans-Atlantic experiments.

Central location - buses from Cork, and to Skibbereen and Kinsale stop right outside.

Large, comfortable and colourful rooms, with good a/c: it was 25C the first two days I was there:  grab bars in the shower too, things that are not routine in many hotels in Éire.

Staff are unusually helpful and informative. All round good value.

Regular 'trad' sessions are held in the Lounge, and in the little An Teach Beag
bar behind the hotel. Weekends and Tuesdays much recommended.

The restaurant is cafeteria style, though guests get their breakfasts served

Some noise issues -  street traffic in front, early morning deliveries in the rear.

Historic old hotel, nicely Refurbished.

If you seek and savor classic Irish hospitality and in the misdst of one of the country's most charming small towns, you simply will not do better than pausing for a few nights in Clonakilty's O'Donavan's Hotel. Tommy and Dena are seventh generation owners and they simply grond the place in the grandest legacies of hospitality and ease that West Cork can offer, which is saying something. Large comfy rooms, quirky nooks, great breakfast, splendid old bar with a far that never stops, good food all day -- and so reasonable. What more can you ask for?


A West Cork Classic

My review is solely for the cafe / restaurant. 
My wife and I with our 3 sons stopped off for lunch on a very wet Thursday afternoon. We are staying in Clonakilty on a 3 day break. To be honest, the food was v poor at best. My spaghetti bolognaise was really poor. Very watery, tasteless. Totally unseasoned. The chicken goujons were totally over done. Literally dark brown. The price was very expensive. €17.50 for goujons and chips!!. Not recommended 

Poor food

I made this account just to post this review. This hotel is fantastic!! The loveliest staff who couldn't do enough to make you feel welcomed. On arrival we met the lovely Dena who made us feel like old friends. She was very friendly, funny, and made us feel like we were coming home to our own family.
All the staff were like that in the hotel. 

What made this place especially good was that it seems to be packed with locals who just pop in for a cup of tea and a chat. The lobby was always busy with people chatting to each other, and the staff. 

We travelled with our dog (Cooper) and he was almost made more welcome than we were! Every time we left the lift into the lobby, whichever staff was on the desk popped their head up to say hello to him! 

The breakfast is savage too! I looked forward to it every morning.

I'd recommend this hotel 100% and I can't wait to come back again. I travel a LOT for work, this hotel beats any other hotel I've stayed in. I'm writing this on my first night home and I miss the place already. Clonakilty is a special town, and this hotel exemplifies everything that's great about the place. 

The best hotel experience I've had in Ireland

Staff was great  we ordered a cooked standard breakfast and it came as the size of a child. Very disappointed for money. Felt hungry afterwards. Mushrooms was left out which I ordered because of them to be told they have run out. Staff trued to make and gave chips to make us feel better. They were lovely. But not worth the money for breakfast if you like a good cooked one. 

Poor breakfast child potion for adults 

We stayed here for two nights recently. Fabulous quaint room with a balcony. Cosy, warm and clean. Spacious room and bathroom. Staff are fantastic and breakfast is generous with a good choice. Special shout out to Robin in reception and the two guys in the bar. Will be back.

Quaint and friendly hotel

We popped into this hotel recently on a day trip to Clonakilty to see Santa. Despite initially being unsure of the somewhat old fashioned surroundings, we were very happy with our choice. Really tasty good quality cooked breakfast, scones & croissants at very reasonable prices. Friendly helpful service. We left saying we would definitely be back and really appreciated the old world charm by the time we left

Tasty Breakfast, Great Value

Very intriguing hotel, rooms are very comfortable & warm. Staff are extremely friendly, secure parking.
Located right in the centre of town, food is affordable & ok. Full of photographs from the past, which adds to its family run business.
Great for a 2 or 3 day stay.

It's easily a 3 Star, highly recommended hotel in Clonakilty.

Really loved our stay in this authentic hotel. The building itself is glorious , beautiful original timber everywhere , proper staircase , lovely little spaces to sit and read one of the many books on display;
 Everything was great , bit of craic checking in at reception. The barman maintained an excellent sense of humour despite busily sorting drinks, taking food orders and serving dinners. The food is decent  pub grub and not pretentious 
.The bed was fabulous, really comfortable. There are signs of wear and tear which I don't mind at all . Breakfast was cooked to order.
 This is a genuine old school hotel, not all chrome, plate glass and mirrors.
Good value too ! I love it.   

Authentic Hotel

Garden Alley Bistro should be renamed heartburn bistro. Very basic fried food and soggy looking pizza, lots of it being left uneaten. Probably explains why there was more staff than customers there on a bank holiday Sunday. On the upside the surroundings and staff are nice. The main bar of the hotel looked busy with people eating so probably a better bet.
