I spent a week at the Lumbalumba resort, Manado on a swim and dive trip. 

Firstly the resort itself is lovely. The outlook is stunning, the grounds are a testament to the love and hard work the owners have put into the place over the 25 plus years. 

My room was perfect. 

All the staff were amazing. 

The Indonesian themed food was delicious, especially the 2 mornings we were given an Indo themed breakfast option. I would happily have that every morning. The dinners were fabulous as were the on board packed lunches.

The swim locations were next level - gorgeous corals, spectacular critterage and clear water. Very comfortable boats and the crew treated us so well!

And the diving.... picture yourself drifting along huge rock and coral walls past multitudes of turtles, rays, tropical fish, nudibranchs, sponges, corals etc. How lucky was I to watch a huge school of  fish literally thundering past and being chased by hungry Barracuda, mere metres from me!  It is very clear how much the very experienced dive crew care about the place.

Definitely one to put on your travel list.

Stunning, Fabulous, Beautiful, do yourself a favour.

A very fine resort built on the slope of a former plantation. The eight or so nice buildings (bungalows featuring terraces with a view, open restaurant...) are set in a tropical, colorful and very well maintained garden. 
There are usually two dives in the morning, the dive boat takes you to the Bunaken Marine Park in about 45 minutes. Here it is mostly wall diving with an abundance of large turtles, and lots of schooling fish. Alternatively, there's muck diving, and a wreck along the coastline closer to the resort. Night dives are also possible.
Also recommendable are daytrips that take you into the surrounding highlands, to lakes and a big market (best on Saturdays); and to the Tangkoko Nature Reserve to see the local animals. Ask for Chris as your guide! :o))

Small resort and diving in tropical paradise

Perfect small resort with wonderful and big garden. Exceptional  view on Bunaken and sea from nearly every spot. Owners and the hole crew (kitchen, diving, ...) are great, very friendly, and helpful.
Food perfect!

Perfect small resort with wonderful and big garden

I cannot say enough good things about Lumbalumba. This is a stunning resort. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and manicured. The cottages are comfortable and very spacious. The bathroom is huge. Each cottages has a porch that looks out over the water. The infinity pools is gorgous with plenty of loungers lining the sand and palm trees surrounding it. Small swallows swoop in over the water creating a beautiful ambiance.

Meals are served in the main building which has a bar, seating for casual conversation, and plenty of resources to look up information about what you saw on your dives that day. The food is excellent with plenty of options for all types of palates. Of course the specialties are asian and fish. Meals included soups, salads, sides, a choice of main course, and dessert. Each night was different and each offered 2-3 options of mains, sides, and salads.

The staff was phenominal. Every person on the Lumbalumba team, from gardeners, to cooks, to housekeeping, to the dive team, and especially the owers gave 120% to ensure your stay was exactly what you had planned.

The diving in Bunaken National Park was spectacular. Beautiful wall and corals. Lots of turtles and lots of fish. Great place to dive.

I highly recommend this resort to anyone thinking of traveling to the Manado area.

Doesn't Get Better Than This

Upon arriving to Manado, our driver was waiting for us at the airport. We had a nice welcome from LumbaLumba Manado when we arrived. We really enjoyed the resort. It is on the smaller side, very intimate, which we liked. Our private villa was cozy and comfortable. It had a private deck which overlooked the beautiful volcanic island of Manado Tua. 

The food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was excellent! 

LumbaLumba Manado also had VERY beautiful manicured grounds with exotic plants and flowers. We enjoyed just walking the property, taking in the sights. 

The infinity pool was also very beautiful, and offers an excellent view of the ocean, and volcanic island. We enjoyed the pool numerous times after a morning of diving. 

Now to the diving…The dive boat was fast and comfortable. It even had a stand up head onboard. The resort gave us our own private dive guide. This meant that we dove in small groups, and didn't need to be lumped together with divers of different levels of experience. Our guide (Kres), was excellent at locating, and pointing out interesting animals and features. We felt like VIP’s. We believe that the beautiful reefs and walls at Bunkaken were actually in better shape than some we dove in Raja-Ampat previously. That is setting the bar quite high.👍

In closing, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and dives, at LumbaLumba Manado.

We definitely plan to return.

Best diving and resort

Diving in excellent locations with expert local divers as a buddy, who can show you the sea animals you'l never see on your own. superb experience with all the staff, fronm reception to cleaners they all know you by firts name, as do the owners Juul and Ruud, very refreshing experience. 
Other than diving they can arrange daytrips over the island i.e. vulcano tour, or the jungle tour which we both did, i can tell you Manado is a very beautifull island!.

We had a perfect holiday in October 2023. Beautiful luxurious rooms, tasty meals and very thoughful service and friendly people. Perfect environment and a real recommendation for dives and relaxation. Thanks to all, especially to Juud and Roel. 


Perfect Lumbalumba Manado

We recently stayed at Lumbalumba  Resort for our 4th visit in 15 years. 
Lumbalumba  has become our go-to when we want a great dive vacation.  
The diving is varied between wide angle and macro. Easy currents and very warm - around 30-32deg C during August. 
Juud and Roel are excellent hosts, which is why we return, and their loyal staff are all wonderful. 
Several staff have been there since we first visited 15 years ago, that speaks volumes to the quality and happiness of this resort. 
All the rooms and facilities are impeccably maintained. The gardens are spectacular. 
The food is both plentiful and delicious and always served with a smile. 
Dining is communal, a big plus for us. Lumbalumba seems to always attract other guests that are delightful to mix with on the boat and dining room/bar. 
I am sure we will return to Lumbalumba in the not distant future, hopefully with grown children and grandchildren.

Our Go-to Dive Resort.

Our first visit to Lumba Lumba was in 2008. It was fantastic back then and it is even more amazing now! We returned this time with our three girls (aged 9, 11 and 13) for the older girls to get their PADI Open Water. The dive instructors were all amazing. So patient with our girls as they dived with us and so knowledgeable on each and every one of the amazing dive sites we had to choose from. There were more fish than we have seen anywhere else in Asia and an explosion of turtles everywhere we turned at some sites! Truly magical.

Everything about the resort is faultless. The staff are so friendly and attentive, the rooms are spotless and the food is delicious. The pride that every staff member takes in their work at every touch point speaks to a very special place that owners Roel and Juud have created over many years.

We had such a wonderful time that we decided to extend our trip by another week and of course the resort was able to accommodate our last minute request! We would highly recommend this resort to anyone (including families) looking for spectacular diving. You will spoiled with laid back luxury once you get back to the resort including poolside drinks as you watch the amazing sunsets from the infinity pool.

Now that our girls have their PADI we look forward to many more visits to Lumba Lumba. Special thanks to Kris and Maxi our incredible dive masters!
