Akranes HI Hostel

I recently stayed in this hostel and it was a very pleasant experience. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There was also plenty of kitchen/bathroom space with sufficient fridge space too. The staff were really helpful and there was also plenty of information on the local area, maps, suggestions of activities etc. The hostel was also very secure. When arriving you can just ring a phone number to get the combination to open the door (to get your own key) rather than going across town to the office. The option of using slippers provided was a great touch and also keeps the place clean. The kitchens were well equipped except for a cheese grater- a random request! This hostel is in a good location a few minutes walk from the town centre. It not in a particularly tourist area, on a residental street with a nearby factory. Don't let that put you off! Be sure to check out the bakery up the street, it's really good. At the main square is a stop for the circular bus with regular buses to get around town. Overall a really great stay and would recommend to anyone stopping off in Akranes during a trip to Iceland.
