We arrived in San Pedro Sula with a reservation for this place.  To cut a long story short we were really hassled by our driver who after agreeing a price, tried adding to it and calling us thieves when we wouldn't pay.  This is the only place we had experienced this and San Pedro Sula is not the nicest of places to get into a huge argument with a taxi driver.  The guy in the hotel helped us out with the driver and locked the door.  He also arranged for his friend to take us to the bus terminal early the next morning.  He went above and beyond to help us.  The city is a complete dump and I really cannot find a good thing to say about it.  But if you have to visit (to catch a bus etc) then stay here.  The rooms are big and clean, with private bathrooms.  They have food and drinks to buy and a free computer.

Excellent value and helpful staff!

Our hotel room was very clean and had everything that we needed. The hotel is much nicer inside than it looks like it would be from the street. We had cable TV and AC, and the staff were all helpful and friendly. We had secure parking, and felt very safe. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is on a tight budget and wants to be near downtown!

Great hotel for travelers on a tight budget!

I had to spend two nights in San Pedro after diving at Utila.  The taxi drivers at the airport (300 Lemps to or from the airport) and at the bus station (100 Lemps from Hedman Alas) knew exactly where Hotel Real is so there was no confusion on directions.

The hotel isn't fancy so don't expect the Waldorf but it felt safe.  The front entrance was always locked - the clerk buzzed people in from behind her/his desk.  There was always someone at the reception desk and an extra watchman sat in the lobby at night.

The bed was a little on the hard side but the sheets were clean.  The room I rented had air conditioning and a private bathroom.  The shower only had cold water but it was 95F outside so cold water was awesome.  There was also cable TV with mostly latin american stations.  CNN, NBC from a city in Florida, and a couple of other US stations were also available.

Around the hotel, there were plenty of shops.  About a block and a half around the corner is a local grocery store -- I stocked up on bottled water here.  There are restaurants and a couple of pubs within walking distance of the hotel.

I wear non-flashy clothes, a Timex for a watch, and carry just enough cash to do what I wanted.  

I didn't mind walking by myself during the day.  There are plenty of people around and many stores have private security guards with automatic rifles on guard outside their buildings.  This didn't bother me.  

At night, more colorful characters are out and about.  I would suggest a most visitors stay inside or take a taxi.  Those who are more adventurous or know kung-fu might want to walk around if you want to get your adrenaline going.  Remember, taxis are available.

Central San Pedro Sula is pretty ugly.  I don't know how the rest of the city is.  I wouldn't spend more than a day in SPS.  I had to spend two nights because of a flight booking issue.  Oh well.  But Hotel Real was more than acceptable for my tastes.  And for less than 25 US a night, after staying at hostels for my entire trip, a private bathroom with A/C was so luxurious.

Clean, quiet, friendly, and very inexpensive.

We ended up staying here by accident after a delayed flight. It was recommended by the Lonely Planet and a private room was cheaper than the only two hostels in the city. The room was basic but had the essential A/C which you wouldn't want to go without in SPS. It was in a bit of an unsavoury area so I would make sure you get a taxi if you venture out for dinner etc. The employee on reception was helpful in organising taxis etc but did not seem to know much about the local area. The inside of the hotel was pretty. It would be a fine place for a stopover or a couple of days.

Good for an overnight stop

Me and my friend were traveling from Belize and got stuck in San Pedro Sula since there was no buses due to holiday season. After a long journey we arrived and checked in so I took out all my stuff at the reception desk (I was looking for my passport which I accidentally put in my camera bag). Anyway, the next moment my black bag was gone!! It had my my Samsung Tablet in there. Since no one else was there only the reception guy was able to steal it! I asked him several times but he denied.
Besides that, the places is hot, there is no window facing outside and it's just not a nice place to stay. All night some drunk people were singing in the reception. Worst experience in Central America so far!!
