Nefeli

Just back from a week at nefeli. Was terrified after reading the awful reviews on here, however we had a lovely time there. Hopefully our review will give a more realistic view of the hotel than some of the recent ones. Yes it is very basic there, yes it could be improved in some ways. But it is a very friendly, and very clean hotel. We left a large tip for the room cleaners,as our room was cleaned daily. The white bedlinen was fresh and clean, floors well swept and fresh white towels daily. My partner and I enjoyed every meal, yes there isnt a huge selection but what is there is very tasty. There was always beautiful organic greek honey and greek yoghurt for breakfast. As well as beans, eggs ,toast, bacon etc. The cakes laid out at breakfast were made by the owners mum and not shop bought. Lunch and dinner was always some lovely salads such as tuna nicoise, homemade coleslaws, fresh tomatoes etc. Next to the salads was fresh meat such as roast pork, pork kebabs, chicken, beautiful bolognese and pasta dishes. Vegetable accompaniment. Throughout the day, cake, and some homeade pasties and pastries were left out at the bar. The chef and kitchen staff worked hard and seemed genuinely interested in ensuring guests had enough food. We were polite and friendly to the staff and in return, we found them to be more than happy to look after us. The owner and staff do seem fed up when people complain about not enough food, but it was clear to see that there really was enough, and it was always refreshed when it ran low. Why make too much just for people to waste it? I like to see fresh food being brought out rather than leaving a large tray of food sit there and go cold. The buffet was refreshed every 5 minutes with more hot food, chips etc. There wasnt ever a dirty dish left laying around. The bar staff were lovely, made such a fuss of all guests and got to know your drink of choice. Reception staff were chatty, kind, knowledgable and were so pleased that we enjoyed. Pool was beautiful. Clean and refreshing. Always sunbeds available with cushions. It was a really peaceful pool area which makes a change from busy, loud, noisy pools. Yes the grass needs cutting and maybe a general tidy up around border of hotel. The hotel is walking distance from kos town centre, or 7euros for a taxi. All in all, we really enjoyed our time there despite the poor reviews. We rarely leave reviews but felt this one was important, as often poor reviews are left by people who perhaps see life as a half empty glass. The owners are leaving at the end of this season but that didnt stop them treating us extremely well. Thanks Nefeli for giving us an authentic Greek welcome.
