I cannot state enough how much I discourage anyone from staying at this hotel.
We only stayed for 2 hours before deciding to move to a different hotel due to feeing very uncomfortable and unsafe.
We are a family of four with 2 young children (6 and 8). We arrived at around midday and went straight to the pool. Within less than an hour we were asked to keep the noise down. The children were playing in the pool, they were not being excessively loud, they weren’t screaming or shouting. They were simply playing.
I went to speak to the owner to ask whether the children playing would be a big problem for him, he said that the policy is quiet at all times in the pool area and on balconies/terraces. When I explained that it would be impossible to keep the young children quiet he asked whether I’d like him to go and make them be quiet. I told him that it would be better for us to leave and go to a new hotel if the silence policy around the pool was also during the day (24 hours to be exact), and we would happily leave and take a refund. The hotel refused to give us any money back (we had paid for 4 nights- £650). 
The owner refused to listen to me and became quite aggressive so we decided to move anyway. 
The hotel does not allow payment directly through the app, only by direct card charge or cash. Due to this we were unable to request the full refund from Booking.com. 

I completely understand not wanting people to be loud at night to allow other guests to sleep etc. however a 24 hour quiet policy along with being unable to jump in the pool, play ball games or even play music on your own balcony during the day is excessive and obviously not family friendly.
AVOID at all costs. Whether you’re young, old or a family.

I stayed in Fanari Art hotel for 4 nights. The location is perfect for us to travel down to the famous beach by bus (walkable from from the hotel) staff suggested where to visit and we enjoyed it. We also rent a car and there is parking at hotel. Good experience on the island

Excellent spot

AWFUL EXPERIENCE - worst place I have ever stayed. The owner would stare at the ‘security’ cameras all day at his desk,  one of which was pointing onto our balcony which also saw straight into our room where we would be getting changed etc. which made us as a group of girls very uncomfortable. As we arrived he forced us to cancel our booking on booking.com to pay him in cash which felt a bit weird. At the pool he came over to tell us to ‘stop laughing’ it was no fun at all, it felt like a prison, and music from even a phone was not allowed at all. Very dull place to stay. Would not recommend to anyone at all unless you want to get told off by a strange man.

We were made to feel immediately uncomfortable on arrival, when the owner asked us to cancel our booking.com booking so that we could pay in cash - we were pressured into this decision after a long travel day, and didn’t really recognise that it was a dodgy move from the owner. The owner had an issue with us playing in the pool at midday, complaining about noise, as well as at 6pm when we had quiet music on on our private patio, which he only heard when he walked past, not from other parts of the hotel. He issued us a ‘final warning’ on our second day, at which point we saw booking.com reviews saying that other people had been kicked out and lost out on money. We made the decision at this point to leave before things got worse. We were made to feel very observed and uncomfortable by the hotel owner, who had a camera facing into our room on our patio, and a tv with constant cctv on his desk. 
When we told the manager we were checking out early, he very quickly came across as very angry and lied to us about legislation which doesn’t exist, stating that we still owed him half of the money for the days we were originally booked for. We stood our ground, refusing, and left, to which he began to shout and said he was calling the police on us. Considering we are girls around the age of 20 we found his behaviour not only patronising but we also felt extremely unsafe and would strongly advise against staying here to anyone else our age who would like to have a pleasant holiday and feel comfortable where they are staying. Hope this review helps someone to not make the same mistake as us by staying here!

Avoid at all costs!!!

DO NOT STAY HERE I CANNOT STRESS IT ENOUGH!!! The behaviour of the hotel manager is absolutely detestable! Right upon arrival we were made to feel uneasy as he manipulated and confused us into cancelling our booking on booking.com to pay in cash for a cheaper price. This was not something we were made to feel we had a choice in and he basically took my phone from me and did it. After a long day of travelling I was too tired to even understand him and he took advantage of that. 
On the first day we were told to stop LAUGHING and talking around the pool as well as on our PRIVATE patio as we were apparently “disturbing others” even though all the other guests we spoke to agreed we had not bothered them at all, EVEN HIS WIFE SAID WE WERE NOT DISTURBING HER, and they explained how they were too afraid to use the pool at all after being threatened by the hotel manager so many times for just talking. 
There was also a CCTV camera that looked directly onto our patio and into our room, which alone is enough to make us feel unsafe but on top of that he had it displayed on a large screen at his desk that he watched non-stop to the point it felt perverted. If he wasn’t watching the the cctv he was patrolling the pool and hotel like a prison warden. 
On top of this some of our belongings went missing to no explanation and he refused to be of any help finding them. And after reading reviews we can clearly see this isn’t the first time things have mysteriously gone missing within his hotel. 
After 2 nights there and being threatened to be kicked out multiple times, we had enough and found somewhere else to stay as we hadn’t paid anything yet. When we went to check out and pay for our time there, he immediately got aggressive and demanded more payment than the 2 nights we had stayed (when he didn’t even deserve that much) pulling out fake legislation that doesn’t exist saying we owed him 50% of the days we were not staying, which we refused to pay as he had terminated his contract with us the moment he cancelled our booking.com reservation. When we said we didn’t even have that much cash he said we could pay on card, even though when he made us cancel our booking he said he didn’t have a card reader??? As we left he screamed after us threatening to call the police. The managers behaviour was ABSOLUTELY ABHORRENT and inexcusable. Every guest in the hotel was scared to even whisper out of fear of being kicked out and some said he had taken their passports on arrival without returning them????? The manager is a con artist and just all round a nasty piece of work. If you’re in ios on a big group trip or even if you’re not don’t give a freak like this your money.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!

We were asked by the hotel manager when we checked in whether we wanted to cancel our booking.com booking in order to pay the rest in cash minus the booking fee, which apparently would work out cheaper for us. We felt we had no choice but to do this as he said that he needed the remainder paid in cash, despite being told when booking beforehand that it could be paid on card. We were also told by the hotel manager on arrival that there is thieves on the island and to be careful to lock our door. However, strangely, when being shown around we were told that if one of us came back early we could leave the key under a rock by our hotel room, as we were only given one key. We found this to be a very odd thing to say, especially the mention of thieves, as our time spent on Ios showed us that is seemed to be a friendly small island. The rest of our stay was fine up until the second to last day, where an expensive designer perfume bottle went missing. Id like to emphasise that this perfume was kept only in one suitcase and did not leave it unless to be used by one person who owned the perfume, where it was put straight back into the suitcase. No one else entered the hotel room apart from our group (four of us) and the cleaner, who cleaned once a day. We very diligently locked the door every time we left. Unless someone else had a key, there is no chance that anyone else entered our room. Our group waited until the next day while we were checking out and all our luggage was out the room, to search the hotel room. We searched every possible place but could did not find it. We raised the issue that the perfume had evidently been stolen to the hotel manager, who tried to assure us that his cleaner would never steal and that she had worked for him for seven years. We tried to explain that this may be, but the fact was that the perfume was gone and she had been the only person apart from us who had gone into the room. The hotel manager then tried to say that they have thieves. We asked him in that case to check the cameras (of which there are many, facing our balcony and front door area). The manager then changed the subject and began asking us when this had happened- he also mentioned that we might have left the door unlocked which we assured him that we hadn’t. The same cleaner who had been cleaning our rooms was there, he then called her over and began asking her about the stolen perfume in Greek. The cleaner said he hadn’t seen it. The manager then sent the cleaner into the room to check, which we found very odd. He only said that we could go with her once she was inside the flat. She appeared twenty seconds later with the perfume, claiming to have found it ‘behind the fridge’. We would like to express the fact that there was absolutely no chance that this perfume could have found its way behind the fridge through our fault- the fridge was inside a cupboard pushed up against the wall. The pefume is large and bulky, in a glass bottle and as beforementioned- expensive. If someone had accidently kicked it or dropped it behind the fridge there would have been uproar among us as it would have broke- this would have been the first thing we noticed. AND to emphasise again- this perfume under our care DID NOT leave the suitcase unless it was being sprayed on, when it was put right back. We strongly believe that the cleaner, the day before we were due to leave as it would be the last time she was cleaning our room, had hidden the perfume in a place we would not find it (for example behind the fridge) so that when we were gone she or whoever was in on this scam, could come back and take it.
As soon as the cleaner came out with the perfume, the hotel managers demeanour switched. He immediately began shouting at us; he told us we were stupid, that we were disrespectful accusing them of stealing when clearly it was our fault., we were disgusting etc. he became quite aggressive in his manner and we felt unsafe, despite other hotel guests being on their balconys watching this unfold. The manager was shouting at us to leave, so we decided against arguing as we had gotten what we wanted out of the situation which was to get the perfume back and we left.
This was an unpleasant finish to the holiday, the hotel and pool itself are perfect for what we needed so it’s a real shame that our treatment on the last few days has clouded our stay in this hotel. The feeling that our belongings were being picked over when we were not in our room has left us with an unpleasant feeling, and the fact that we were shouted at and called names for reporting the theft to the hotel manager when he should be the person who in that situation should help us is very disappointing. Ios is a gorgeous island and every other local we met were so kind, being unlucky enough to stay in a hotel ran by this angry old man was the only downside!

Scammers!

my wife and I spent 4 nights here ... before arriving we carefully read all the reviews for this property ... we were told that the owner does not allow you to behave arrogantly ... it is true that the owner has rules of conduct - but they are quite acceptable for normal people ... we stayed in room number 2 ... the rooms are small but without moisture and mold ... they are cleaned every day ... we had a beautiful view of the pool, the church and the sea ... we we were with a car but the accommodation is very close to the city and we didn't use the car to go to the city in the evening ... you have private parking at your disposal ... we didn't swim in the pool but if you are a fan of swimming pools by the sea - the owner regularly personally clean pool ... don't come here if you want to be arrogant rude and irresponsible .... we didn't notice that it was noisy even though it is close to the street ... we can freely recommend the facility to parents with small children .... if ever we will come to ios again - this will definitely be our first choice!

The stay at Fanari Art Hotel was a  peaceful and fun experience. The rooms were always kept clean and the views from our hotel balcony were amazing. The owner had a few rules but if you abided by them he was very pleasant and clearly cares a lot about his hotel. I’d recommend staying here if you’re in a couple or a group. Plus the location is perfectly situated within Chora. Thanks Dimitris.

Pleasant Stay

1 - due to location and pool. 

The owner tried to have us cancel the booking and to pay cash, telling us it was cheaper and a ‘win win’ for both parties. We did not do this as we previously aware due to reviews. He also had a whole host of rules. He checked the room before we were able to leave after checking out. Excessive amount of cameras around the property. Felt quite uncomfortable in his presence, we felt as though he was looking to charge us for something as on the back of the bedroom door it states “we hope you have a nice stay, we hope we don’t have to charge you”.
Also asked us to go through bank statement because he said he didn’t charge the 50 percent before arrival however we had, was unable to locate name of payment therefore having to pay the full amount on arrival.

Beware of owner.

Owner was grumpy the whole time. tried to kick us out on our third day and blamed us for stuff we didn’t do like swimming past 8pm. would definitely not recommend staying there it’s not worth the money and i’m 100% sure there are better places for the price. DO NOT STAY HERE !!!
