The room was very clean, the shared bathroom was also clean. This is a very simple lodging for a low-budget trip. The location was very convenient in Rotherbaum which is a wonderful neighborhood.. The staff-person I met was very friendly and helpful.
If you don't expect amenities and comforts you won't be disappointed.

very simple, not for comfort seekers...

Room was dark, as the windows faced another building that was too close to allow sunlight to get in. But the place was spacious and clean. Service very friendly and helpful. Would rent the room again.

affordable and nice

The hotel is situated not so far from the Bahnhof - I made the trip on foot. It's also not so far from the lake and the city center. 
But don't choose it if you have problems to slip in noise. I had a room at the road (and railroad) side - even if I close the windows the noise is still there. There are also some inconvenients as:
- 5% addition to your bill if you pay by credit card
- they are giving no towels
- For instance, in my room there was no lightbulb in the lamp
Otherwise the rooms are gorgeous, with high ceiling, ancient decorations and so on...

Not far from the Bahnhof - but but but

The pictures of their website do not reflect the truth at all.
At least the room was clean and I was lucky to get a room not facing the main road and the train tracks. On could call the building and the rooms having some kind of an atmosphere, but in my opinion there is nothing done with care or love. 
The building is not soundproofed but everybody during my stay seems to regard that.

I stayed one night and I didn't spend to much time in the room.

Not good enough for average

Booked this hostel on the basis it was in a nice area with funky cafés and restaurants. First of all struck by the fact the hostel is infact 4 apartments on the right-hand side of the building. The reception is very nice and the staff very nice, however unorganized and frankly unprofessional. The rooms are lovely and beds very comfortable - all the duvets are clean and fresh.

However the bathrooms put a damper on everything. There is a WC, a fully equipped bathroom and shower in 3 separate rooms. They're shared by 6 rooms. They are all VERY dirty, the toilet is incredibly smelly and each room has a lots of damp. Shower with flip flops on. There were even blood splatters up the tiles. 

Considering we paid less to stay in the airport Mercure earlier in the week, €80 would have been better spent on a hotel 10km away from Hamburg.
