The hardest part for British tourists is the language barrier...and whose fault is that? Our host was very patient with us. 

Everything about this place was relaxing. We were given a small house rather than an apartment. It was very cosy. All modern conveniences and everything in it's place. The central pool and gardens were very pleasant.

You must have a car if you visit this place, as it is a distance to any beach. Once you get used to the location of the bakers, supermarkets and some of the restaurants (which have fabulous food) you are there.

Thoroughly recommended.

Wonderful Place

We spent 4 nights in the Maison Calebasse. We arrived in this beautiful property and we were greeted by Bridget with a local rhum punch! Amazing! After she showed us around the property and we were very excited! She helped us with all reservations and gave us all the tips to find the best beaches. They were very accommodating and make sure that our 1 year old had everything she needed! We highly recommend this porperty. If you are looking for a more relaxing and original vacation that is the way to go!

Amazing family holiday

We stayed in Villa Ocean for 2 weeks.
We arrived after our 7.5 hour flight from Orly and a 45 minute drive from the airport to this wonderful property.
We were welcomed by Ocean the owners daughter and shown to our villa.
Later Bridget and Thierry the owners introduced themselves and agreed what time we wanted the meal we had booked in advance. This 3 course meal was one of the best we had in Guadeloupe.
The following morning Bridget laid on a typical French Caribbean breakfast we had booked and then gave us lots of local and national information.
We mentioned that we preferred to sit in shade and later that morning Thierry went to the shops and bought us an  sun umbrella and two beach chairs which we thought was so nice of them.
Every morning we would wake,swim in the lovely pool and then over breakfast decide what to do that day.
The whole property is very nice with several places to sit and relax. Mango's, Passion Fruit, Star Fruit and Bananas to collect from the floor of the gardens or take a walk down the track and see what the locals are up to.
You are only about 3 miles from the beach and town of St François were there are numerous restaurant's and shops. The rest of this side of Guadeloupe is no more than 1 hour away. However other side of Guadeloupe is really a day trip away.
We would recommend La Maison Calebasse  as a great place to stay and relax however if you don't like animals this is not the place for you.
Finally there are Mosquitoes here so take precautions.

Wonderful place to relax

Coming from the larger Fort Royal, on Basse Terre to the small La Maison Calebasse is a big difference, here you will find a familiar atmosphere.
We hade very nice and comfortable room, a large modern bathroom and a small kitchen with a washing machine.
The excellent breakfast is served by the pool and includes home made yoghurt, bread, home made marmalade, fresh fruit and juice.
We drove to Saint Francois, a 10 minute drive, in the evenings for dinner.
Brigitte assisted us with all kind of reservations and bookings as our French isn't the best. Worth mentioning is that the place is like a small zoo with it's 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 horse and 1 goose walking around in the gardens, all very friendly an quiet (well, except from the goose).
La Maison Calebasse is a really nice place and highly recommended.
