Le Clos Poulain is located in the French countryside, about 8 km from the center of Bayeux. The B&B’s location and the size of the property make it private and peaceful, yet close to the Normandy beaches and the sites in Bayeux. The B&B has its own parking lot for guests. Our room was on the top level of the beautifully restored French villa. The room could accommodate a family. It was large, clean, and nicely decorated, with a modern bathroom and shower. The proprietor, Valerie, takes a special pride in her B&B. The breakfasts featured local products and were very good.

A Quiet and Comfortable Country Location Outside Bayeux

I had the honor to spend a few nights at Le Clos Poulain Maisons d'Hotes.  You can see you are in for a real treat from the moment you arrive.  At this point, Valérie provided information about parking, breakfast, and literature highlighting local activities, then showed us to our room.  

Attention to detail, pride, and quality is very apparent.   Walking through the door, you realize you are in a special, one-of-a-kind home with character, elegance, class, and deep history.   

Our room was well-appointed and very relaxing.   I especially loved opening the dormer windows while enjoying the cool breeze and looking out at the sky.  I couldn't help but wonder what stories this home could tell.   

Each morning for breakfast, Valérie met us with a smile and undeniable positive energy.  Breakfast offered a nice variety of food, and we never left hungry. 

Our checkout was good.  However, I  caused a bit of a disturbance when I had my days mixed up and thought I was staying for another night.  When you are so relaxed, you lose track of time.  Had it not been for Valérie, I would have missed my next reservation in Versailles.    

If you are in the area, you should stay here.  You won't find a more authentic experience anywhere else.  Valérie’s  hospitality and warmth are infectious.

Wonderful & Restful

We had a lovely short stay over the October half-term holiday. The B&B is situated in a newly renovated farmhouse just outside Bayeux. It is quiet and surrounded by fields, yet close to the tourist attractions of Bayeux and a great base for exploring the D-Day beaches and memorials. Valérie was a wonderful host and prepared a lovely breakfast every morning, including homemade Normandy specialities. Highly recommended!

Lovely B&B outside Bayeux

The guesthouse is really amazing, an old farm/stable turned into a modern Bed and Breakfast. No restaurant, no elevator (would have ruined the building), so be warned: look somewhere else if that's what you looking for. The owner is very kind (Miss Valérie) and she gets your breakfast served (09.00 the latest), featuring homemade jams and marmalades, fresh daily bread and pastry in style in a cool, fashionable environment. Can't get better than that! You can park your car for free at the house, kids have a huge green grass area to play (totally safe, far from roads) and Bayeux (don't miss the Cathedral) is just a few minutes away. The rooms are top quality! Modern bathrooom, very clean and the TV allowed fast USB connection. A great experience!

The right choice! Charmful and quiet

The owner, Valerie, was amazing and very welcoming. The facilities were super clean, comfortable and it was in a very beautiful peaceful area.  We got the suite for 4-5 people (Mathilde)- it was very spacious and although it was a studio, the arrangement and lay-out made it possible for everyone to enjoy their own space.  There is a super cute loft as well! 
 Breakfast was local food and freshly made daily. The bed and linens were fresh and incredibly comfortable- they smelled like heaven. Because it is near farms, it was pitch-black at night so sleep was very deep.

Restorative haven

Wonderful bed and breakfast located 10 km south of bayeux in an restorated french villa. The rooms are very comfy. Decorated stilishly and are equipped with an excellent sound isolation. The host Valerie and her husband are two very warm and charming  persons  for which nothing is asked too much. They even proposed to babysit on our 4 month old daughter.

Stayed in the one of the converted stables at this guesthouse. House was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Fully equipped kitchen that we didn’t use as we ate out. Comfortable double bed and the kids slept in the sofa bed which they said was very comfy! Location is perfect for a visit to the D-day beaches - could easily drive to 2-3 in one day- within about 12k -20km. Bayeux is about 10 mins drive and very easy to navigate around. Valerie our host was very welcoming. It’s about an hours drive from Cherbourg ferry port so we definitely will stay here again

Beautiful B&B in Normandy

This is a beautiful property in a rural, bucolic setting only 8-10 minutes from downtown Bayeaux. Also convenient to Omaha Beach sites.  The current owner just bought it in March.  Valerie is a lovely woman who lives here in the main house with her husband and 2 adolescent children. She does not speak much English, only French.  We spent 4 nights. 

We stayed in the main house, where the family also lives. I am frankly not sure of the other room set ups.  I think there are 1-2 other rooms in the main house and a separate unit that looked like a nice little apartment. 
We were in the purple room, which is on the 2nd floor and overlooks a lovely back yard. We had already been traveling for over a week when we got here, so just spent most of Saturday laying on chairs in the yard and taking walks locally.

Our room was lovely.  It was large, clean and had very cheerful, modern decoration. The bathroom was tiny, but had a modern shower; no problem. Shutters did not do a great job of keeping the morning sun out, if you like to sleep in.  Good bed and pillows.

Breakfast is in a nice, airy common room.  No cooked food, but good coffee, cheese, bread, pastries, etc.  Everything of very good quality.  Best granola I have ever had. Valerie does not yet grasp the idea of an American cup of coffee - so ask for "a full cup" if that's what you want.  

Our only negatives:  the room was never visited - not to make the bed, empty the garbage, etc.  Valerie will bring you whatever you need upon request.  Also, you have to be comfortable kind of living with a family.  They are there and you see them - the kids play in the yard, etc.  Maybe this is a nice plus if you are a family yourself.
As for value, at about $100/ night, I thought it was excellent. 

BTW, Bayeaux was a lovely town; I was totally surprised.  Very pleasant, big cathedral, good walking and restaurants.
