This elegant and spacious large manor house has been lovingly and extensively renovated and upgraded to meet modern comforts. Located in a small town, it is within easy distance to reach the Beaujolais wine country in the surrounding towns, as well as the lovely Lyon just a short 20-30min drive away. This Chambres d'Hotes is run by a lovely family, who caringly welcome you to stay in this wonderful home and breakfast was delightful.

Building: Hidden down a small street in a small village, the automatic gates open to reveal a beautiful front garden and centuries-old manor house.  Behind the home is another large garden, complete with clean modern swimming pool (the owner was working during the summer to install fashionable sail sun shades around the pool, to improve the area further).

Room: We had a very very large room on the top floor.  Floors in tomettes (red clay octagonal tiles; very historic in France, and feel nice and smooth and naturual under your feet; I'm a big fan).  Large bed, very comfortable sleeping, and absolute quiet.  TWO bathrooms in our room, each completely restored using the old stone walls and integrating modern lighting, showers, heated towel racks, mirrors, etc.  A great realization of what can be done with an old stone house!  Hot water and water pressure were both excellent in the shower.

Breakfast: Served in their amazingly restored large spacious kitchen (a dream kitchen!), the breakfast offering was all of high quality and the host took every attention to detail to take care of his guests. (us as a couple, plus 2 families with small children)  

Hosts: As mentioned, the host was very attentive and takes care to deliver a good experience for his guests.  

Tip: The host recommended us walk a short 5min away to a small upscale italian grocery store where we had a wonderful time meeting the owner and later enjoying some great true italian food.

Elegant and Spacious Manor House - Gracious Host

We stayed at Sensato for a few nights in July.  The owner and his wife were welcoming and very hospitable, fluent in French and English.  Our expansive room had a private, exterior entrance which provided for a feeling of privacy.  The room had two separate en suite bathrooms, a large fireplace, sitting area, and comfortable bed.  The morning breakfast was well appointed, fresh, and varied.  Parking within the gates of the hotel allowed us to access our car easily.

Overall, our stay was comfortable and relaxing.  We will visit again upon our return to the Lyon region.

Relaxing "Home" Stay

This restored Manor House is owned and run by a charming and very welcoming couple.  We had a very large room which was on the first floor.  We slept very well on the King Size bed, which was "cushy" and very comfortable.  The bathroom was wonderfully modern and spacious.  Breakfasts were very tasty and very ample.  Our host even sat down with us this morning as we shared political views of France, the USA and the world!  Most interesting!  The hotel is set in a rural area which is very quiet and lends itself to relaxation!  We will return on our next visit to the Rhone-Alpes area.

Very Pleasant Manor House outside of Lyon

I recently spent a few days at this Bed and Breakfast just outside of Lyon and would highly recommend it.  The property is a 16th century large French cottage style house and is decorated in a modern way while maintaining the old charm of the building. The owners are a young and very dedicated couple that go out of their way to make their guests feel at home. Breakfast is wonderful and feels like having breakfast at home with a butler! And there is nothing more enjoyable than relaxing poolside and being served drinks and snacks as wanted. Location is perfect and FYI, the beds are huge and the matresses on those beds are the most comfortable I have ever, ever slept on!!  Highly recommendable!!

Arriving was a nightmare, it took hours before we were allowed in. Fair enough, it said so on the agreement, but no one even answered the phone.
Once you enter the grounds, you feel like you're in a movie. What is a fabulous mansion and seemingly revamped recently, is also standing amidst a garden that hasn't seen a gardener for weeks or months even.
As soon as we were shown to our room, the top floor 4-bed studio, we went to the swimming pool at the back. There too, lots of the garden needed cutting and pruning. The swimming pool was very milky and looked messy.
The women who accommodated the guests was not the renowned charming owner nor his wife. Elegant and spacious it might be, but with not much to offer in the state we found it in.
It took ages to pay, the credit card system did not work, repeatedly, which would make anyone suspicious.
Having said that, it is rather ideally located for nearby Lyon. We had a fine dinner on our way into the city.
We won't be back nor do we recommend it the state the mansion, swimming pool and host are in now (and therefore also not a good value for money).
Nighttime there was some noise from some nearby villagers, but that could have been a one off.
Try the tiny Italian shop on the main road, quirky to some, very Italian to others. Both shop and place to eat. The owner is quite a character. Fab coffee.
