I stayed a bit over two weeks at the Hostal - I would have really enjoyed to stay longer. Great vibe at the Hostal. I arrived and was directly treated like a long known friend. Sharing meals, laughs and a lot of good and fun conversations. Daniel is super easy going and will help you with anything you need. I can absolutely recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a chill stay in Puerto Engabao. The place is very clean, tidy and close to the beach and the few restaurants in town. The Hostal has hot water and an outdoor kitchen with all the necessary utensils. You can also wash your clothes at the Hostal, which is great as there is no real laundry place in town.

Best hostal in Puerto Engabao

I have stayed at the surf shelter a few times over the years. The owners Daniel and Nadjai are super friendly and welcoming. They also have all the waves around the area dialed. The rooms are simple and clean they also sell the large 5 gallon jugs of water to save on plastic and spending money on smaller bottles I'm sure I'll be back again yeewww 🤙

Epic spot great location friendly owners

My boyfriend and I planned to stay three nights but ended up staying three weeks. The hostel is very nice organized and always clean. There is a brand new roof top terrace for yoga, sunsets and hammock action. The hosts care about you and become your friends, surf guides, entertainers and news flashs. The closest wave is pretty consistent and a 2 min walk. The other point breaks are close by car and aaamazing when they are on. The vibe is very open, respectful and friendly, like a surf family. There are loads of animals as well brightening your day (Nadija always appreciates your help feeding the puppies). Sounds like paradise, right?

Feels like Home plus amazing Surf

After travelling around staying in random hostels, it was a pleasure to be in such a chill hostel as the surf shelter. It's pretty small, with hammocks inside and outside, a kitchen, clean rooms, 2 shared bathrooms and Daniel and family as great hosts. He has plenty of boards to rent, some for beginners. They can organize surf trips, classes and will give you any advice you need. 
The village of Puerto Engabao is super small and people are still sincerely interested in who you are or where you come from. If you are not searching for a party, this might be your spot. 

Just relax and have a coffee

one of the sweetest places i stayed. 
nadija and daniel are the nicest most welcoming family you can imagine. made me feel like home. 
the room was clean with a comfortable big bed, delicious breakfast with proper coffee. bbq with shrimps straight from the ocean. just perfect.
the beach is very close and you can rent some quality surfboards from daniel. he knows everything about the waves around and will make sure you be at the right spot.

just go there, but you might end up staying longer than you planed.

little paradise

Daniel and Nadija's Surf Shelter is one of a kind. They really make you feel at home. I had an amazing time surfing, relaxing in the hammocks, meeting new people, and drinking their delicious coffee. Can't wait to go back.

Unforgettable 

Daniel came out in the middle of the night to give us proper directions to another hostel. 

Over the next few days Daniel and his wife were very accommodating, and let us rent boards, drink beers and chill out on the property. We talked about culture and life and even watched a surf movie. The board selection was great! I even broke one of his leashes on accident and he told me not to worry about it. 

Thanks for being so welcoming and accommodating! Looking forward to coming back one day.

Saved us!

Loved my stay at the hostel! I stayed in the upstairs cabana which was private and had its own hammock in the room. A short walk and you are at the point, which is a really fun wave. Great vibe in the place, a lot of places to chill and relax between surfs. The owners are very nice and helpful, they organized cars to go to the other points at Playas on the bigger days. A lot of fun waves around. I definitely recommend staying here. I stayed for 2 weeks.

Great place!

Shelter Is the type of place you arrive and extend a week then another week.
The vibe is relaxed and Danny looks after the place really well. He’s super helpful and give you the tips and help organise your surfing to the good breaks if there on.The hostel attracts a good crew of surfers and the surrounding areas are super nice.
If your looking for some waves and a chilled place i highly recommend this place.
