They canceled my stay only one day before arrival leaving me unable to get anything else at a decent price! They claimed "Administrative reasons" but if they really were you figure they could plan ahead better.

Unreliable!

La Cigale
My 13 year old son and I spent 2 weeks at La Cigale
It’s a charming small hostel with restaurant and bar.
The location is great- in the old town- walking distance to all important sights, museums and the parque de la madre.
Our room was cute and cozy and super clean. Beautiful bathroom. 
Mattress was comfortable. Room was made each day and and we got fresh linen and towels every other day. We felt very comfortable. 
The staff is super friendly and accommodating. 
The walls of the rooms are quite thin, so we could hear the music all the time. But we loved the playlist, so it was fine for us.
A simple breakfast is included but for few dollars you have lots of options to upgrade 
We had dinner there quite often- so I guess we had almost every dish on the menu at least once and we liked them all. 
Would be nice to have a “hang out spot” on the roof terrace with some Hammocks or beanbags though. 
We loved our stay and my well travelled son said it was one of his best experiences so far. 
Thank you to Victor, Luis, Anna and all the others for a great experience.

Lovely time

I really enjoyed my meals here. The place can get pretty busy at dinner which is always a good sign so I would get in a little early. Good size portions, good taste. I love the fresh juices. They are reasonably priced and the place has a nice decor with candles on every table.

Great spot

The absolute best!  Live music, candlelit dining, amazing food- a female French owner, female Italian helping, and local Ecuadorians that are so kind and dedicated- I even saw them dancing while they worked,  What an amazing team.  I miss them so much right now.  And delightful hostel rooms in the back with lovely ambiance.  Perfect so that I could stay out late while my 14 year old retired early, or I could go out shopping and leave him to his homework, knowing he could get lovely food anytime without going out.  My son even said, "Mom, this is sick!!" Haha

So Special it is Dear to My Heart!!

I didn’t stay at the hotel hostel or whatever. I ate downstairs and I enjoyed it. Very friendly staff, very clean, and rather pretty. I wouldn’t order another ham and cheese crepe there but it was fine. The Mojito was good. I would recommend this place. It’s nice.

Nice

Disappointed by this hostel. The description in my travel guide did not fit the reality. It is a very charming hostel but unfortunately the staff turned on the music in the restaurant/bar area at 6.40am! When we asked, they said it was the neighbour which was clearly a lie. Don’t stay there if you want a good night’s sleep. I think it’s best known for the restaurant and live music (until midnight).

Lively but noisy!

We stayed at La Cigale for one night (double room) as our transfer to South Ecuador leaves from this place. There are some up and downsides to this place. 

Upsides:
- our room + bathroom was fairly spacious and clean
- the location of the hostel is fine
- Breakfast was OK

Downsides:
- most expensive bottle of coke we consumed in Ecuador
- the staff was not friendly at the reception; the cleaning lady, in contrary, smiled and seemed very kind
- NOISY; do not expect to catch sleep before 24:00. As in more old places in Ecuador, the walls are very THIN.

Given the above, we decided to stay in another hostel when we got back from the southern part of Ecuador.

Quite noisy, not friendly

Our favorite place to stay in Cuenca. We enjoyed spending the time at the hostel and it’s bar. Cozy and comfy bedrooms, friendly staff and delicious food. The bar had a great atmosphere and seemed like the spot to be on any given day.
