Hey mates. If I hadn’t felt so happy during muy stay, I wouldn’t comment here, but I think it could be useful. The facilities are clean, the staff are always willing to help and tell you a piece of advice. I was a Couple of days but I took advantage of the recommendations. The hostel is worth staying. 

Cozy place and friendly staff

Sadly enough, we got robbed in our room when we were away.

The staff have all the the keys to all the rooms! And they go inside when you are away! 

DO NOT BOOK THERE

The attitude of the staff after telling that we got robbed was terrible... Accusing us it was our fault, that we were lyers, being impolite and inappropriate....

This place is fine for a night although I would recommend against the windowless rooms that have the bathroom down the hall. I had a small room with private bath with a ceiling-mounted fan and TV, and a small window into the street. The staff are friendly and give you a sales pitch on activities which don't make much sense since they all seem to require getting on at least one public bus -- more or less stuff you could do yourself. There's little to no traveller community or presence that I could see. The street noise is loud beginning at about 6 am and continuing till past 10 pm --  doable if you run the fan, blast a white noise app, and use 30+ dB reducing earplugs. The deal lbreaker for me came at 10 am with an overpowering noxious smell that overtook my room and that gave me a headache and made it hard to breath. I opened my door to an even more powerful sensation. After packing up to flee, I inquired with the staff and was told the noxious odor was routine insecticide spray. Little wonder there were no travellers lingering about. I hope the staff do their due diligence before birth defects result. Again, without a window in your room, the situation with the spraying could be dire.

Could Be So Much Better with More Attention to the Guest Experience

Welcomed into the hostel really well by the staff who were quick to show us a helpful map of the town and answer any questions we had. We stayed in a double room which was very roomy and comfortable, and the shared bathroom facilities were fantastic - hot showers and there were many bathrooms to choose from so I was never left waiting around to take a shower, which can be a problem in other hostels. The shared kitchen was really well kitted out and kept very clean (which is good as breakfast is not included), and the hostel has a relaxing lounge area to chill out and research which tours you would like to do! With regards to the tours, the staff at the hostel are very helpful in organising rafting and rappelling tours (at short notice) for us and charge the same price as if you were to go to the tour company directly.

Great Hostel

We had a wonderful stay at Bacaregua Hostel. We stayed in a private room which was large and clean. The facilities are good and the WiFi is excellent. The staff was particularly great, very helpful and they booked some tours for us. It’s one of the best places we have stayed in in 7 months of travelling. Amazing value for money.

Lovely base for San Gil

Excellent place to stay. The service was excellent, they’ve helped us a lot during our stay and the place is proper and friendly. Also good place to chill and explore the region. We recommend highly!!

So friendly place!

This was a very nice and clean hostel. Good atmosphere and assistance for activities available in San Gil. I did not like the mattress as it was too soft and felt like quicksand. Distance to the square was good and the owners were very kind. Definitely recommended when staying in San Gil
