The guest house is in an area shut off to traffic which means you will walk for 10 minutes or so from the main road.  It is in a pretty spot next to a canal with very easy access to the main tourist sites in the area.  The Chinese breakfast was probably the best we had at guest houses whilst travelling across China.  It was however the only accommodation we stayed at in China that did not accept an overseas credit card which was surprising given we booked through an on-line agency.  Overall, we would recommend this accommodation for its location and value-for-money.

Very convenient location

We just returned from our trip at Little Days Folk House in Suzhou and we fell in love with this small guest house run by a couple. We stayed here for 4 nights. The location is ideal for exploring this 2,500 year old town on foot, it is so close to the Humble Garden, which is the most important garden in the city. Lots of restaurants and tea houses are so close, as well as a bar, so the location is just great. Also so close to Pingjang, a tourist street but so cool.(We found the best Sichaun restaurant on this street hidden down a small alley!)

We found this boutique hotel on trip advisor and we were excited to visit from looking at the photos and reading the other reviews. We arrived in the evening, and the couple was there to check us in with tea, and a map of the local area. They made us feel like were we staying at the home, rather than a hotel. The guest house has 2 or 3 cats who live there, so that was an added bonus for us, as the cats were so cute, and keep you company while you have tea:)  Also local photography is on the walls, and some by the owner, beautiful photos taken on trips.

The kitchen and reception area is well designed, books everywhere, multiple tables for hanging out eating, or being on your computer. Two large windows overlook the small water canal, so you can watch boats pass by as you drink your tea and dream the day away. I am an interior designer, so I appreciate the details they added to this hotel, but it doesn't feel cold or typical hotel, much more like a home stay.

We had the room on the first floor, with a small garden outside our window. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower had very hot water and good pressure. They leave a tea pot in your room for morning tea, but they also make the best coffee latte for you in addition to a local breakfast. The food was incredible, and so beautiful. One morning we had dumplings, the next morning the host made us local noodles, and the next morning a soup from water plants and tapioca. If you want the real local Suzhou experience, you must visit this hotel. 

On the day we left, they woke up early to call a taxi for us at 6:00 AM. Since  it was low tour season, the hotel was not very full, and we felt like we were staying with good friends, as they are so kind and good at what they do. 

We stayed in Suzhou for 4 nights, and absolutely loved this water town. Although the city is large, the city center is wonderful to explore on foot. Get lost in this incredible town, explore all of the areas as they each offer something different.  The gardens are superb, the Suzhou Museum is excellent and a treat if you love contemporary architecture, and the local food is so good. And the bakeries! We also had a tour guide one day, Sunny, who is amazing! But this town is also easy to explore on your own too.

Have fun exploring Suzhou and staying at this excellent guest house. It really is a home away from home. We will return on our next trip.

The Perfect Guest House!

My husband and I enjoyed our two-night stay at this personal, small boutique guesthouse along the canal of Old Town Suzhou. This light-filled guesthouse is conveniently located to major attractions, very clean and hosted/owned by a helpful couple and their playful, cute cats.

1. Convenient, Quiet Location. The guesthouse is located within a short walk to the Suzhou Museum, the Humble Administrator Garden, the Lion Grove Garden and the bus station for the No. 1 Tourist Bus (cost 3 yuan and stops at Besita, the Suzhou train station and Tiger Hill).  A mere 50 meter away are the numerous restaurants and shops of historic Pingjiang Road.  Located right by the canal, the guesthouse is in a quiet location; it is really nice to sit outside the guesthouse and enjoy the singing boatmen taking customers up and down the waterway.

2. Comfortable, Clean Accommodation. The rooms are very clean and comfortably furnished with western bathrooms and basic necessities.  The guesthouse has been thoughtfully furnished and decorated by the owners.  Rooms vary from 15 – 30 m2 and a simple Chinese breakfast is included in the room rate.  Of course, rooms facing the canal are nicer.

3. Helpful owners/hosts. We mainly dealt with the wife who was very helpful in answering my questions and giving tips on itineraries.  I do not think she speak English and I was able to communicate with her in my basic Chinese.  I believe the husband can speak English.

On average the hotel is about 3-4 stars in amenities and 5 stars in service.  Do get the telephone number of the hotel so taxi drivers unfamiliar with the hotel can talk to the owner for directions.  If not, the hotel is about 200 meters from the Lion Grove garden

Lovely, small boutique hotel in a quiet, convenient location

Absolutely LOVED this small family inn.  The location is unbeatable, right on the canal, just across the bridge from stunning Pingjiang Road. Walking distance to most of the sites. We were spoiled with fresh watermelon daily and beautiful Asian breakfasts.  Staff are adorable.  This neighborhood in Suzhou is gorgeous.    Highly recommend.  It is on the alley so you have to walk a short distance to get to it and taxi cannot drop you right in front.

Sweet family inn

This boutique eclectic hotel was a real gem. The beautiful couple that own and run this small unique hotel should be very proud. We had a wonderful experience staying here. There were only 6 rooms we had a back room which was lovely and peaceful the front rooms over the canal would also be amazing. So close to everything. We were able to walk everywhere. Thank you once again for our special 2 night stay. Memorable

A real gem

We have stayed in this small hotel a couple of times over the last two years. It truly is a gem in the heart of Suzhou.
The location is right in the center of the historic part of Suzhou, very close to all the major sites. There is a bus station very close to the hotel to take you to places all around Suzhou. The main train station is very close to the hotel, but not walking distance.
The rooms all have their own personality, and while some are bigger than others, they all feature the necessary amenities for your stay. They are all lovingly designed and furnished. I can recommend the upstairs rooms with the french balcony towards the canal, it is very charming.
Chinese breakfast is included in the rate and is both pretty to look at and yummy. Cafe and tea is served in the lobby and sometimes some food as well, but great options for eating out are abundant in the area as well.
The couple that owns the hotel and their staff are charming and caring, they are supported by a team of well-behaved cats...
